Arrival & Getting Ashore

Getting to the centre: From the AFTO passenger-terminal complex, Sheshi Pranvera is a central bus terminus for continuing into Durrës.

  • Public transport: if your assigned exit is Gate 3, cross the pedestrian overpass to Stacioni i Trenit; IRI TRANS line 4 (Universiteti–Durrës) continues from there to Sheshi Pranvera in the Durrës-bound direction.

Durrës has alongside cruise berths: the Albanian Ferry Terminal Operator publishes cruise-berth facilities within the passenger-port complex. Confirm your assigned berth, authorised exit and any internal transfer with the ship. Do not follow vehicle signs to a ferry check-in area merely because it is labelled as the passenger terminal.

The port authority identifies Gate 3, inside the railway-station building, as the pedestrian connection to the ferry terminal by an overpass. An official port notice dated 7 April 2026 reports works affecting Gate 4 at Ura e Dajlanit. Keep the ship's return instructions with you and give a driver the specified gate or meeting point.

About this port

A short call in Durrës works best as a visit to the city's Roman remains and surviving defences. Tirana requires a separate inland transfer; decide which city you want to visit before committing your shore time to transport.

The useful distinction on arrival is between the working port and the public streets beyond its gates. A berth near the centre does not by itself establish an unrestricted walking route from the gangway.

Getting Around

For independent sightseeing, start the walking portion after leaving the port by the approved route. The municipality places the amphitheatre in the historic centre and identifies the Venetian Tower and surviving walls as city sights.

For Tirana, arrange a return road transfer with an agreed pick-up point and return deadline. Keep Durrës as the fallback if the transfer would leave too little time for the return journey and boarding formalities.

Things to Do

  • A focused history visit: make the Roman amphitheatre your main stop. The later chapel inside it adds another period of the city's history without requiring a second journey.
  • A shorter outdoor route: pair the surviving city walls with the Venetian Tower. The municipality describes narrow, steep stairs inside the tower, so seeing its exterior is a useful alternative to climbing it.

Allow time for one paid interior and a break rather than trying to visit every museum.

Getting back to your ship

Return planning: use the ship's all-aboard time, including any port transfer, as the limit for your day.

Practical Information

  • Money: Albania's currency is the lek. Confirm the currency of any taxi quotation and the payment method before accepting it.
  • Emergency services: ambulance 127; fire 128; police 112.
  • Return planning: use the ship's all-aboard time, including any port transfer, as the limit for your day.
