Plan for the ship to remain offshore and transfer passengers by tender. SeaDream's Falmouth excursion instructions explicitly start at the tender landing; its passenger guidance also confirms normal tender use at transit calls. Your ship's briefing determines the jetty used for your visit. Do not head to a marina berth simply because you can see yachts tied up there.

Going ashore includes a boat transfer before any walking. SeaDream advises that its tenders and gangways are not fully accessible to mobility devices, with assistance and permission to land dependent on the particular operation. Discuss those arrangements with the line in advance if you need help.

About this port

Falmouth Harbour, also called Falmouth Bay in cruise itineraries, is Antigua's south-coast call beside the English Harbour area. SeaDream and Star Clippers include it in ocean-cruise itineraries. Its appeal is the chance to combine maritime history, harbour-side dining and a beach without first crossing the island from St John's.

Nelson's Dockyard makes a good focus for a first visit. Add a viewpoint or time in the water according to your interests and the ship's tender schedule. When booking transport, specify Falmouth Harbour, Antigua: St John's is a different cruise port, and Falmouth in Jamaica or Cornwall is unrelated.

Getting Around

Walking suits a visit centred on the harbour and Dockyard. For Shirley Heights or an outing farther across Antigua, arrange a driver or join a ship excursion. The tourism authority notes that pavements are uncommon outside central St John's, so proximity on a map alone is not a reason to extend your walk along a road.

Agree the full vehicle price, currency, waiting arrangements and return jetty before departure. If you want beach time, decide whether you are staying independently or returning with your excursion group; those are different collection arrangements. A transfer included in a booked excursion is not a town shuttle available to every passenger.

Things to Do

  • Nelson's Dockyard: Explore the Georgian naval buildings and working marina at English Harbour. The site belongs to the Antigua Naval Dockyard and Related Archaeological Sites World Heritage property. Its history includes the skilled work and forced labour of enslaved Africans as well as the Royal Navy; the National Parks Authority's interpretation helps put the waterfront architecture in context. Leave time to enjoy the harbour rather than treating it solely as a photo stop.
  • Shirley Heights: The former lookout overlooks English Harbour and the Dockyard. It is a good addition for landscape views and an understanding of how the harbour was defended. Make this a planned extension with a return lift. The evening events advertised here need a suitably late ship departure and should not be assumed to fit a daytime call.
  • Galleon Beach: Choose this for time by the water or a guided snorkelling outing. SeaDream gives a 5–7-minute drive from its Falmouth excursion departure to Galleon Beach; this is the operator's transfer estimate, checked 25 September 2026. Its guided snorkelling activity requires participants to be able to swim. Wildlife sightings depend on what is present that day. Operator's excursion details.

Getting back to your ship

Save the location of the landing when you arrive and return to that same meeting point. English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour are neighbouring places, so “the harbour” is not a precise instruction for a driver. Allow for the road journey from a viewpoint or beach, then any tender wait and the crossing to the ship. The last tender can leave before all-aboard; use the ship's published tender instructions and respond promptly if crew change them.

Practical Information

Bring water, sun protection and shoes suitable for walking, plus a towel for a beach outing. The Eastern Caribbean dollar is the local currency; many businesses also accept US dollars. Establish which currency is being quoted. Antigua uses Atlantic Standard Time, UTC−4, without seasonal clock changes, but follow the time specified aboard your ship for its return deadline.
