Arrival & Getting Ashore

The modern cruise terminal provides alongside berthing. Panama's maritime authority identifies the Panama Cruise Terminal on Isla Perico, Amador Causeway; the tourism authority records its opening in March 2024, after cruise operations had already begun. Use that terminal name when arranging a pickup rather than the broad label Panama City.

Follow terminal staff to the authorised vehicle meeting area. A driver waiting elsewhere on the causeway may not be at your permitted pickup point. Arrange assistance with the cruise line if you need it between the gangway and your vehicle; the existence of a modern building does not establish the accessibility of your ship's gangway.

Some cruise documents still specify tender access at Fuerte Amador; Seabourn's tender list includes the destination. If your voyage uses that arrangement, take the landing address from the ship instead of sending a driver to Isla Perico. This guide's main arrival advice concerns the alongside terminal.

About this port

Fuerte Amador is the Pacific-side gateway to Panama City, on the Amador Causeway. The Panama Cruise Terminal at Isla Perico handles ocean-cruise calls and embarkations. It is separate from Colón on the Caribbean coast, and from the marinas and small-boat departure points elsewhere along Amador.

Choose the day around one main interest: Casco Antiguo for streets, squares and lunch; the causeway for museums and waterfront views; or Miraflores for a close look at the canal locks. Combining everything makes the road journeys dominate a short call.

Getting Around

A prearranged car or ship excursion is the simplest way to connect the terminal with a chosen city attraction. Set the pickup point and return plan before leaving the ship, especially for an independently organised visit.

For public transport, MiBus C850 links the Amador Causeway with Metro Albrook. Visit Panamá describes the connection. It is a causeway bus service, not a service advertised from the gangway. Establish the permitted terminal exit and boarding stop with staff before relying on it. Albrook is a transport interchange, not Casco Antiguo; reaching the old quarter requires an onward journey.

Once on the public causeway, walking or hiring a bicycle can be an activity in itself. Its waterfront route connects Naos, Perico and Flamenco with views towards the city and canal entrance. Do not confuse a recreational causeway walk with a measured terminal-to-city walking route.

Things to Do

Explore Casco Antiguo. Make Plaza de la Independencia your starting point: the cathedral and Interoceanic Canal Museum face the square. Continue between the old quarter's plazas, then choose lunch or a museum rather than rushing across the city. The historic streets are best appreciated with time to stop; cobbles are relevant when choosing footwear or a mobility aid.

Stay around Amador. The causeway has places to eat, skyline views and the Biomuseo, which explains Panama's biological and cultural diversity. Its published non-resident adult admission is B/.20, checked 2 October 2026. Consult the museum's opening calendar before making it the centrepiece of your day, particularly on a Monday. Visit Miraflores. The canal visitor centre combines lock observation with an IMAX film. The authority suggests approximately 1½ hours for the visit, excluding travel. Non-resident adult admission is B/.17.22, including the film, checked 2 October 2026. Ship movements determine what you see from the viewing area; use the centre's current information when planning your visit. Canal authority visitor information.

Getting back to your ship

The principal risk on a city outing is road congestion, followed by the final terminal access process. Leave room for both when agreeing your collection time. Tell the driver Isla Perico and your ship's terminal, and keep the return separate from any onward airport arrangements. On a tender call, your deadline is instead the last boat from the ship's named shore station. Neither the city name nor the general Amador address is precise enough for that return.

Practical Information

Bring sun protection, drinking water and a light rain layer, especially for time on the exposed causeway. Carry the terminal name and your ship's contact details offline.

For an embarkation, Royal Caribbean estimates 45–50 minutes by road from Panama airport to Fuerte Amador's cruise terminal. Treat this as an airport-transfer estimate, not a journey time from the city sights or a guaranteed check-in allowance. Base your arrival on the cruise line's reporting time and current traffic.
