Orientation, not a walking route

Ocean ships dock at DP World San Antonio, a terminal handling both cargo and cruise passengers. Its passenger building has border-control facilities and sits separately from the berth. The cruise-port association describes 250 metres between quay and terminal and lists shuttle buses among its resources; this measurement is not a public walking route through the port.
Follow the movement arranged for your ship, then identify the authorised pickup point before meeting an independent driver. Use "DP World San Antonio passenger terminal" in your booking. San Antonio and Valparaíso are different ports, even though both can appear as gateways to Santiago.
About this port
San Antonio is the actual coastal port behind many itineraries labelled "Santiago". The Chilean cruise-port association places it 120 kilometres from Santiago. That is the distinction to settle before planning: a Santiago city visit is an inland excursion with substantial transport, while a day in San Antonio can stay close to its waterfront.
For a transit call, the local Paseo Bellamar or a prearranged trip to Isla Negra offers a clear focus. If your cruise starts or ends here, a Santiago hotel or airport transfer is a separate booking that must reach the correct port.
Getting Around
A prearranged car is useful for an independent excursion outside San Antonio because you can agree both the port meeting point and the return in advance. Give the operator the ship name and the passenger access instructions supplied for your call.
For a local visit, ask at the terminal how to reach Paseo Bellamar, then explore the public waterfront on foot if it suits you. Avoid interpreting the port's short quay-to-building distance as a short walk to every city attraction.
Princess estimates about two hours by road from Santiago city to San Antonio, depending on traffic (checked 2026-10-15). That's one way; for a day in Santiago, allow time for the outward and return drives, sightseeing and passenger formalities. A transfer sold for someone starting or ending a cruise won't necessarily suit a transit call.
Things to Do
Paseo Bellamar: this public waterfront is the most direct way to give the day a local focus. The port authority describes an active community of artisan traders and ongoing work to improve the promenade. Browse the stalls, look across the harbour and leave time for a meal rather than treating San Antonio only as somewhere to depart from.
Isla Negra: Pablo Neruda's house museum makes a focused coastal outing for people interested in writing, collections and the sea. The foundation describes a house whose objects and setting reflect the poet's imagination. Despite its name, arrange it as a road excursion to the house museum, not a boat trip.
The foundation's published 2026 general admission is CLP 11,000, checked 2026-09-25. It lists the house museums as open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00, with entry without advance reservation. Check for exceptional closure before arranging the car, and allow for waiting rather than promising your driver an exact exit time.
Getting back to your ship
Tell your return driver to take you to the authorised passenger access for DP World, using the meeting instructions you saved when leaving. A freight entrance or another terminal in the port is not interchangeable.
From Isla Negra, protect time for the drive back and passenger processing instead of adding an unplanned coastal stop. From Santiago, the intercity return is the main constraint on the entire day: stop sightseeing at the agreed departure time. The ship's all-aboard time, not the advertised sailing time or a generic transfer estimate, is the deadline to work towards.
Practical Information
Confirm what your excursion includes: the vehicle, waiting time and museum entry may be priced separately. Keep Chilean-peso prices distinct from any foreign-currency transport quotation.
Passengers needing assistance should arrange the berth transfer, vehicle and attraction access in advance. A dedicated passenger terminal does not itself establish that every stage of an independent outing is step-free.
