Arrival & Getting Ashore
Getting to the centre: For an arrival at Varna East's passenger terminal, the Central Post Office is a useful city-centre landmark; the trolleybus connection starts outside the port at the central railway station.
- Public transport: Gradski Transport trolleybus 82, towards Vladislavovo, links the central railway station with the city centre/Post Office; €1.00 one way using a paper ticket valid for 60 minutes, bought from a ticket machine.

Orientation, not a walking route

Port of Varna identifies Varna East at the south-eastern end of the city, approximately 1 km from downtown. Its terminal profile includes a berth serving passengers and cruise ships. Varna East has a dedicated alongside berth for passenger and cruise ships; a few very large ships may anchor and tender instead, so follow your ship's arrival instructions.
The operator says part of the eastern port area is open to the public. Other areas continue handling cargo, so use the designated passenger exit rather than assuming that every quay provides a walking route into town. The operator's approximate distance refers to Varna East as a whole.
For a booked transfer, specify the passenger terminal at Varna East and agree the collection point supplied by the ship. Allow for the port exit before starting an independent appointment.
About this port
Varna offers two distinct ways to spend a limited call: stay near the waterfront for maritime history and the Sea Garden, or make the Archaeological Museum the main destination. Choosing one focus first leaves room for an unhurried return through the port.
The passenger facilities belong to Varna East. Varna West is a different terminal and should not be used as the destination when arranging a collection for a city-side cruise call.
Getting Around
Use the municipal visitor map to distinguish the seafront sights from the Archaeological Museum at 41 Maria Luisa Boulevard. The trolleybus connection described above is to the Post Office, a separate city-centre landmark.
For a vehicle connection into the city, trolleybus 82 starts at the central railway station. A taxi can simplify the journey directly from the passenger terminal.
The tourism authority's museum description places a broad entrance staircase on the building's southern side. Travellers who need a step-free entrance should arrange an alternative with the museum before setting out.
Things to Do
- Keep a waterfront focus: choose the Naval Museum at 2 Primorski Boulevard for Bulgaria's maritime and naval history, with a walk in the Sea Garden as time allows. Check the museum's visitor arrangements before committing to an indoor visit.
- Make archaeology the main event: the Archaeological Museum displays finds from the Varna Copper Age burial ground, including gold objects. The collections give a stronger reason to visit than an unqualified “oldest treasure in the world” claim. Allow time for the galleries rather than treating the museum as a brief photo stop.
- Leave room for the city: the municipal visitor information describes a central pedestrian route between the cathedral and the Sea Garden. Add part of it if it fits the route to your chosen museum; a short call does not require completing the whole circuit.
Choose the waterfront or the Archaeological Museum first, leaving time for the port return.
Getting back to your ship
Return: retain the exact passenger exit or collection point and the ship's all-aboard deadline.
