Ships berth alongside at Lucayan Harbour, as confirmed by Princess's Freeport information. Treat Port Lucaya as a vehicle outing. Once ashore, follow the passenger exit and your excursion meeting instructions; the name “Port Lucaya” does not mean the marketplace is beside the gangway.

For independent sightseeing, arrange a taxi with Port Lucaya Marketplace as the destination and settle the return collection point before setting off. The Grand Bahama Island Board identifies the marketplace as a regular taxi location. For mobility equipment, specify the vehicle and transfer assistance you need when arranging transport.

About this port

Freeport is a gateway to Grand Bahama's beaches, Port Lucaya's shops and the mangroves of Lucayan National Park. Choose your destination before leaving the ship: the cruise harbour and the waterfront shopping district are separate places, despite the similar names. Port Lucaya makes a manageable independent outing; the national park deserves a dedicated trip with transport arranged both ways.

This guide covers calls at Freeport's Lucayan Harbour. Celebration Key is a separate cruise destination on Grand Bahama, with its own pier and arrival arrangements. Use the port name on your itinerary when arranging a collection.

Getting Around

A taxi works well if your party wants shopping, lunch and a beach stop without following an excursion group. Agree the total price, whether it covers the whole party and whether waiting is included. Keep the driver's contact details if you arrange a return journey.

Local buses operate on Grand Bahama, but the tourism board warns that routes' schedules and fares have varied. For a short cruise call, a pre-arranged car or excursion gives you a clearer return plan. Driving is on the left. Once at Port Lucaya, explore the shops on foot; the marketplace operator also identifies nearby beaches within walking distance.

Things to Do

Port Lucaya Marketplace: Browse straw goods and Bahamian crafts, then stop for seafood or a drink. It is the strongest choice for a flexible outing: shopping and lunch can expand or shrink around the hours available. The official tourism listing describes the open-air shopping and dining complex.

Lucaya Beach: Combine the marketplace with the nearby shore if swimming matters more than a lengthy tour. Carnival's beach guide places Lucaya Beach beside the shopping and restaurant area. Establish which beach entrance and facilities your transport or beach package includes.

Lucayan National Park: Choose this for boardwalks through mangroves, Gold Rock Beach and views into the cave entrances. Stairs descend to the cave viewing platforms, so this is a different mobility proposition from browsing shops. The Bahamas National Trust lists adult admission, ages 15–59, at B$15 including VAT, checked 2026-09-25. Arrange access for your call date with the park or excursion provider; its published opening information currently lists weekends.

Getting back to your ship

Give your driver the ship's name and Lucayan Harbour terminal, and retain a photograph of the meeting point. From Port Lucaya or the national park, the return depends on road transport; finish sightseeing with room for the drive, collection delays and port entry. Work backwards from your ship's all-aboard time. A late shopping stop should never consume the time reserved for returning to the harbour.

Practical Information

English is the official language, and the Bahamian dollar is at parity with the US dollar. Carry a payment card and small cash, plus water, sun protection and any medication needed ashore. Take your ship card and the identification specified in the day's disembarkation instructions. Pack swimwear and a towel if combining town with the beach. Currency and language are covered by the island board's travel tips.
