Arrival & Getting Ashore

Getting to the centre: Pointe-à-Pitre cruise terminals H4 and H6 to Place de la Victoire.

  • Walk: a realistic independent city walk after leaving the controlled port area. The port authority confirms pedestrian access to the centre; its site plan locates the cruise waterfront and square.

Ships berth alongside at Guadeloupe Port Caraïbes. The port authority identifies two cruise terminals, H4 and H6, along the waterfront. Use the passenger exit for your assigned terminal and remember its location for the return. Both serve the walkable city centre, but the route through the port depends on your berth; the buildings and exits are not interchangeable.

Follow the passenger route through security to the public streets. Karuland, the port's craft village, provides an immediate browsing option. The Gare Maritime de Bergevin serves inter-island ferries and is a different facility: a taxi request simply for the “ferry terminal” could take you to the wrong place.

For embarkation, use the terminal and reporting time on your cruise documents. Airport transfer arrangements belong to that journey, rather than to a transit passenger's trip into town.

About this port

Pointe-à-Pitre offers a city day built around markets, Creole streets and the history of slavery, with the cruise waterfront close to the centre. It is also an embarkation port, so passengers starting a holiday and those stepping ashore for a few hours share the facilities. For a short call, combine the old centre with Mémorial ACTe; for an island outing, choose one destination and arrange the return before leaving town.

Getting Around

Keep the central markets, Place de la Victoire and waterfront as one walking outing. Use a pre-arranged driver or excursion for a day farther across Guadeloupe, agreeing the destination, price and return collection point before setting off.

For independent travel towards Le Gosier, Karu'lis G91 runs from Gare de Darboussier through Pointe de la Verdure and Mairie du Gosier. This is an onward journey from a town bus station, not a bus boarding beside the ship. The operator's 2026 route sheet lists Monday–Friday and Saturday services; the Saturday return timetable finishes much earlier. Choose both journeys before leaving town. The operator warns that congested roads can delay buses (checked 2026-10-02). Build the walk between the cruise terminal and bus station into the plan.

Things to Do

Explore the market quarter. The spice market supplies colour and food shopping, while La Darse brings the fishing waterfront into the city scene. Continue to Place de la Victoire and the church of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul, known for its metal structure. This makes a flexible outing: stop for lunch or turn back without being committed to a distant collection time.

Visit Mémorial ACTe. On Rue Raspail at Darboussier, this museum examines the slave trade, slavery and abolition. Give the exhibition its own part of the day rather than treating it as a quick photograph stop. Full-price admission is €17, including the smartphone Smart Visit, with an optional €3 audioguide; the museum lists 09:00–18:00 Tuesday–Sunday, last visit departure 16:30, closed Monday. Prices and hours checked 2026-10-02 on the museum's visitor page.

Getting back to your ship

Return to your assigned cruise terminal, not Bergevin or the bus station. Keep its name and the ship's contact details with you. A bus or road excursion adds waiting and traffic to the return; finish distant activities early enough to absorb those delays and still pass terminal security before your ship's all-aboard time. The city museum's closing time is not a guide to when you should leave it.

Practical Information

Guadeloupe uses the euro. Carry some cash for market purchases and small businesses even if you normally pay by card. Bring drinking water and sun protection for an outdoor city circuit.

The port advertises free Wi-Fi and facilities for passengers with reduced mobility. That describes terminal provision: ask your cruise line about your own gangway and assistance needs before planning an independent outing.
