Helsingør handles both alongside and tender calls. The harbour’s submission to the Danish Ministry of Transport records use by smaller cruise ships, while VisitDenmark describes larger ships anchoring outside and tendering into the Kongekajen (King’s Quay) area, opposite Wiibroes Square.
Use the cruise line’s assigned quay or tender landing in your return instructions, and confirm the last tender and any boarding assistance before going ashore.
Once ashore, the old town and Kronborg waterfront form a practical local focus. Cruise Baltic gives 200 metres from the tender pier into town, while its crew guide places Kulturværftet (the Culture Yard) about 200 metres from the pier.
About this port
Helsingør, also called Elsinore, offers a focused shore visit around Kronborg Castle and the former shipyard waterfront. The castle is the setting associated with Shakespeare's Hamlet and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Helsingborg is the separate Swedish city across the strait; it is not the location of Kronborg.
Getting Around
Kronborg and the Maritime Museum sit in the waterfront cultural area beside the historic centre. For a short visit, choose one main interior visit and use the waterfront and town streets for the rest of the time. A bus transfer into Copenhagen would consume part of the call that can be spent locally.
Allow time to return from the attraction entrance to the correct pier, not merely to the general harbour area. If you need to limit walking, use the chosen venue’s access information when selecting an interior visit.
Things to Do
- M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark: a museum about Denmark's seafaring history, built around a former dry dock. It provides an indoor alternative to making the castle the main visit.
- Kronborg: UNESCO describes the castle's Renaissance architecture and its strategic relationship to shipping through the Øresund. Visit the interiors if time and admission arrangements suit; do not assume a performance of Hamlet will take place during your call.
- Historic waterfront and centre: build a walk around the port's central location, returning through town after your chosen museum or castle visit. The two interiors are alternatives for a short call, rather than an automatic combined programme.
Getting back to your ship

Practical Information
Currency is the Danish krone (DKK). Dial 112 for emergencies.
Check the museums' visitor pages for opening and admission arrangements.
