The Port of Klaksvík provides alongside berths including North Quay, West Quay and Kósin Quay. Its quay information lists North Quay as 317 m long. Obtain your assigned quay and passenger-exit instructions from the ship before planning the route into town.

For the municipal bus, use the Ánirnar stop on the return leg from Árnafjørður towards Sandurin. The timetable also lists Ánirnar on the outward leg towards Árnafjørður, so the direction matters.

About this port

Klaksvík offers a waterfront town visit or a more demanding outing towards Klakkur. Christianskirkjan is closed to visitors for renovation in 2026 (checked 2026-10-15). The mountain option needs suitable weather and enough time for the return descent and port transfer; it should not be treated as a casual extension to a short town walk.

Getting Around

Visit North's visitor office is at Biskupstorg 1. Its transport page lists taxis and public bus and ferry connections from Klaksvík. These are useful for a planned trip beyond town, but a route's existence does not establish that its return fits your call. For a short stay, retain a local plan unless both journeys and a fallback are arranged.

Things to Do

  • Christianskirkjan: the central church uses Faroese stone alongside timber and slate, but is closed to visitors for renovation in 2026 (checked 2026-10-15). View it only from outside where works and access restrictions allow.
  • Klakkur: Visit Faroe Islands lists a 9 km return walk, with an estimated 2 hours 35 minutes of walking, starting and ending at the parking area below the central church (checked 2026-10-15). Allow extra time for the port transfer, breaks and weather. Visit North describes an approach via Hálsur, which can also be reached by vehicle. The upper trail is not clearly marked and has steep, exposed areas. Follow local access advice and turn back if conditions or time deteriorate.
  • A shorter town visit: use the visitor office as a starting point for a walk along public waterfront streets, keeping clear of operational quays. This is the more flexible choice when visibility is poor or the ship's stay is brief.

Practical Information

  • Currency: Faroese króna, exchanged at 1:1 with Danish kroner; the coins are the same as Denmark's. Faroese notes are not valid for payment in Denmark, so plan what to do with remaining cash before the next port.
  • Emergencies: 112.
  • Ashore: take weather protection and footwear appropriate to your chosen route.
