This guide covers ships docking at Port Lympia in Nice itself. The harbour has commercial quays as well as ferry, yachting and small-boat activity. Check the berth and passenger exit with your cruise line; the harbour's compact appearance does not mean you can cross every working quay.

Be precise about the destination if an itinerary also mentions Villefranche-sur-Mer. The metropolitan port authority groups some cruise information for Nice and Villefranche together, but they are separate places. Port Lympia walking advice is not a transfer plan from another Riviera landing.

After leaving the authorised passenger area, orient yourself towards the public harbourfront. Reserve assistance from the gangway if walking a quay or negotiating a ramp would be difficult.

About this port

A call at Nice's Port Lympia puts the harbour district, the old town and the eastern end of the seafront within the same urban setting. A day ashore can be as simple as a walk beside the water, a loop through Vieux Nice and a climb to the Colline du Château for views.

Nice's UNESCO World Heritage inscription recognises its development as a winter resort, shaped by visitors from many countries and by architecture that makes use of the coast and climate. Looking at the waterfront buildings and public spaces is therefore part of the visit, rather than just the walk between attractions.

Getting Around

Port Lympia is served by tram line 2. The Lignes d'Azur operator confirms that it links the port with the central Jean Médecin area and the airport. Use the local Solo ticket for the city journey and the current network guidance for onward connections.

For Vieux Nice and the seafront, walking may be the more direct way to combine sightseeing with the journey. A coastal route around the foot of the castle hill connects the port side with the Quai des États-Unis; continue along the waterfront or turn inland towards the old town according to your time and energy.

From May to October, the association Lou Passagin also runs a free electric boat across the harbour, taking about 3 minutes between its eastern and western sides (checked 2026-09-08). This is a cross-harbour service, useful as part of a waterfront walk.

The castle hill involves a climb. The tourism office describes pedestrian approaches and a lift, but lift availability should be checked before relying on it. A taxi can help with a longer urban journey; agree the pickup point outside the port's restricted areas.

Things to Do

Vieux Nice and Cours Saleya: Explore the narrow streets and the market square, allowing time for a café stop or something simple to eat. Market activity varies by day, so enjoy the neighbourhood without making a particular stall the purpose of the whole outing. Socca, made with chickpea flour, is a local snack to look for.

Colline du Château: The hilltop park offers views across the old town, the port and the Baie des Anges. It works well as the day's main climb. Check current park information and conditions before heading uphill, especially in hot weather.

Quai des États-Unis and Promenade des Anglais: The seafront gives a straightforward way to experience the resort landscape recognised by UNESCO. Choose an out-and-back walk of a length that suits your available time; the promenade extends much farther than you need to walk to appreciate it.

The port district: Leave time to look around the harbour itself. The mixture of traditional boats, yachts and larger working vessels provides a different view of Nice from the old-town lanes. Stay on public paths and respect port barriers.

Getting back to your ship

Bring water and sun protection for the waterfront and hill. For a short call, combine the old town with either the viewpoint or a longer promenade walk. Keep your berth name and return instructions handy, and allow time to pass back through the passenger access point before boarding.
