France cruise ports
France has cruise calls on three separate coasts with little in common. The Mediterranean ports run from Marseilles and Toulon to small Riviera harbours and the Corsican towns, and a number of those calls are made at anchor with passengers brought ashore by tender. The Channel and Atlantic ports, among them Le Havre, Cherbourg and Saint-Malo, are frequently used as gateways to places well inland, so the journey each way deserves as much attention as the destination itself. Several guides cover river berths at Rouen, Bordeaux and Nantes instead of a coastal quay. Begin with the arrival section of your port to establish where passengers actually get ashore and how far that is from the place you want to see.

Getting into town
A walkable port isn't necessarily step-free. At tender ports, the walk starts at the landing. A fare may cover only part of the journey, so check the guide for the full route.

How to read these comparisons
We only compare shuttles and public transport where walking isn't a clear yes. A bus or shuttle may cover only part of the way, or go somewhere else entirely, so check the guide for the route and what the ticket covers. Free shuttles come first. Fares are only put in order when the tickets are the same kind.
