Cruise ships anchor in the gulf and transfer passengers by tender. Cruise Var Provence lists tender facilities and no designated alongside cruise-ship quay. Your ship will identify which landing is being used and the last return boat.

The cruise-club technical profile places the town centre about 500 metres from the arrival facilities. Once on the public waterfront, walking is generally the practical way to start exploring.

Taxis are marked beside both tender landings on the port map. Passengers needing assistance should discuss tender boarding with the ship: accessible shore facilities do not mean every small-boat transfer can accommodate the same mobility equipment.

About this port

Saint-Tropez is small enough for a rewarding visit on foot. Begin around the harbour, then choose between the Annonciade's paintings, the citadel's maritime history and a leisurely walk through the old streets. The museums provide useful context beyond the yachts and waterfront cafés.

Pampelonne is a separate beach outing in neighbouring Ramatuelle. If swimming is the purpose of your day, organise transport first; otherwise a town visit lets you spend more of the call ashore rather than travelling between the coast and the tender landing.

Getting Around

Stay on foot for the harbour and old town. The citadel involves an uphill approach, so decide whether to make that climb early in the visit or choose the Annonciade instead. Return towards the harbour with time for a pause before the tender queue.

For travel around the gulf, the tourism office describes public buses and passenger-boat links with places including Sainte-Maxime and Port Grimaud. Les Bateaux Verts' direct Sainte-Maxime service costs €16.30 return per adult and takes about 20 minutes each way (prices checked 2026-09-08). Its 2026 brochure includes the seasonal timetables. The tourism office's transport guidance covers other road and boat connections. These boats are separate from your cruise tender; leave time between the two journeys.

Road journeys can be affected by congestion. Arrange an agreed return pickup if taking a taxi to Pampelonne or another village, and check that a seasonal bus actually runs on your visit date. Choose one destination beyond Saint-Tropez rather than trying to tour several places around the gulf.

Things to Do

  • Visit the Annonciade. The museum's collection highlights Pointillist, Nabi and Fauve painting, with Saint-Tropez's artistic history linked to Paul Signac and artists who followed him here. The museum listing is the place to check exhibitions and admission arrangements. Allow time for the collection as well as any temporary exhibition.
  • Climb to the citadel. The keep houses a maritime history museum exploring the journeys and work of local seafarers. Its setting above town adds coastal views to the visit. Check the current visitor information and consider the uphill walk when choosing your route.
  • Explore the harbour and old streets. Make this the flexible part of your day: browse shops, take a café break and walk away from the busiest stretch of waterfront. Set a meeting point if your group wants to split between shopping and a museum.
  • Choose Pampelonne for a beach day. The long beach belongs to Ramatuelle. Select a particular access point before arranging transport, as a beach name alone is too vague for a return pickup. Check any charges for hired facilities directly; a beach-club purchase should not be confused with a general admission requirement for the coast.

Practical Information

The official language is French and the currency is the euro. Call 112 in an emergency. Bring water and sun protection, especially for the citadel climb or a beach outing.

Check current opening arrangements for museums and individual businesses. Before ordering a meal, consider the service time as well as the walk back. Keep the ship's tender instructions with you and leave a margin for the return boat even when your last stop is near the harbour.
