Cruise ships normally dock at the commercial port. The published berth plan assigns calls to the Quai des Italiens or Môle principal. The port operator gives its address as Quai Syracuse and directs visitors along Quai Pascal Paoli towards the maritime station.

MedCruise places the city centre approximately 2 km from the port. Allow for the climb from the waterfront to the citadel as well as the distance.

Follow the staff's designated exit. Before walking to the marina for A Citadina, use the port's transport information to find the current stops and departures for the upper town and your return.

About this port

Porto-Vecchio divides a shore visit between the waterfront and the fortified upper town. The marina provides a place to pause beside the boats; uphill, the citadel's lanes, bastions and squares make a more substantial walking visit. Beaches and mountain scenery are alternatives requiring transport beyond town.

For a few hours ashore, the upper town is the most flexible main destination. Choose a beach excursion instead if swimming is your priority, and resist adding a mountain drive unless the call leaves generous time for both journeys and the ship's boarding deadline.

Getting Around

The A Citadina electric shuttle connects the town centre, marina and other urban stops. The port operator describes it as free, checked 2026-09-08. Its access and transport page links to live vehicle information. Allow for the walk between the commercial port and marina, as well as waiting for the shuttle.

Walk around the citadel after reaching the upper town; a car adds little to exploring its lanes. For beaches or the interior, pre-arrange a taxi or excursion with an agreed collection point. The bus station is near the marina, but a bus connection elsewhere on the island should only form part of your day after you have checked the return timetable.

Things to Do

  • Explore the citadel. Start with the Genoese Gate and the streets within the former fortifications. Place de la République is a convenient place to pause between the waterfront climb and further sightseeing. Keep enough time to enjoy the lanes instead of treating the square as a quick photo stop.
  • Visit the Bastion de France. One of the five Genoese bastions, it combines heritage, exhibitions and a panoramic terrace. Consult the tourism office's listing for current access and programming. Nearby church and chapel visits include Saint-Jean-Baptiste and Santa Croce; enter when services and local access arrangements permit.
  • Choose Santa Giulia for a beach outing. The port recommends this sandy bay as a road excursion from Porto-Vecchio. Allow time for reaching the beach from your drop-off and for changing before the return. Follow conditions and swimming advice on site.
  • Head towards L'Ospedale for mountain scenery. Forest and lake landscapes offer a change from the waterfront. Make this your principal excursion, with transport arranged in both directions, rather than an extra after a long beach visit.

Practical Information

French is the official language and the currency is the euro. Dial 112 for an emergency. Carry water for the climb to the upper town and allow for heat when deciding whether to walk or take the shuttle.

The tourism office offers citadel visits and current information on opening arrangements. Browse for local food or crafts if time allows, but check labels and producers rather than assuming all souvenirs are Corsican.

Getting back: if you use A Citadina down to the marina, leave time for the final walk to the commercial port and follow your ship's re-entry instructions. Plan both legs around the ship's all-aboard time.
