The harbour pilot records an outer-harbour anchorage for large ships and quay facilities including Atlantkaj. Seabourn lists Sisimiut as a tender port; plan for a boat transfer ashore.

As checked on 2026-09-08, the pilot carries a renovation notice for quay areas west of the road bridge and on the eastern side of Sallinnguit (Tømmermandsøen), scheduled through week 40 of 2026. Confirm the actual landing, passenger exit and any mobility assistance with your ship while these works continue.

About this port

Sisimiut sits just north of the Arctic Circle on Greenland’s west coast. A short visit can focus on the old town and museum, while inland walks require more time and attention to climbing. The multi-day Arctic Circle Trail towards Kangerlussuaq is not a day-trip connection.

Getting Around

The main visitor areas follow a road that climbs from the harbour, according to Visit Greenland. Walking is common, but taxis and a local bus offer alternatives. A taxi can reduce the uphill section if you arrange pickup at the permitted port exit. The municipal town loop is useful for exploring beyond the old town.

Things to Do

Make the museum in the old town your first choice for a limited call. The community guidelines identify it as the preserved historic centre. The nearby blue church was consecrated in 1775, as documented in the harbour pilot. Confirm which interiors are open and use the town visit as a flexible programme.

For a longer outing, seek a guided walk suited to the available time and conditions. The mountain trails are a different proposition from the harbour-to-town walk. Alternatively, a pre-arranged boat trip to Assaqutaq gives a view of a former settlement; confirm duration and the departure quay before committing.

Getting back to your ship
