At Cobh Cruise Terminal, passengers disembark alongside. The port authority places the promenade a short walk from the berth and the station directly opposite it. You can begin a local visit on foot after leaving the ship's controlled area.

Ringaskiddy Deep-water Berth is across the harbour. The short distance across the water is misleading for journey planning: it is not a walk into Cobh. The port describes an independent option involving a taxi, the cross-river ferry and a train, which means several connections. For a short call, a pre-arranged direct transfer is easier to manage.

If you berth at north Custom House Quay, plan from Cork city rather than travelling to Cobh simply to start a tour.

About this port

For a short call, Cobh offers a day ashore without a transfer into Cork city. Its cruise berth is in the town, beside the railway station. Cork city is a separate outing: decide whether you want time in Cobh's maritime museums or a rail journey into the city before booking an attraction.

Check the berth name in your cruise documents. The Port of Cork also receives cruise ships at Ringaskiddy and north Custom House Quay in Cork city; Cobh's arrival instructions apply only to a Cobh berth.

Getting Around

From Cobh, Irish Rail's commuter route links to Cork Kent station. Use the station's linked timetable for both directions; do not assume extra trains run when your ship calls. Include the onward journey from Kent to your chosen attraction, and select a return train that leaves room for a missed connection before all-aboard.

A taxi can remove a rail connection for an outlying destination, but arrange the return collection as well as the outward trip. For anyone needing assistance, Irish Rail identifies ramps at Cobh and says assistance is required for station access; discuss your needs before relying on an independent rail outing.

Things to Do

Stay beside the harbour: choose one of Cobh's two different maritime experiences, then leave time for the promenade and a meal. Titanic Experience is in the former White Star Line ticket office and follows the passengers who boarded Titanic at Queenstown. Cobh Heritage Centre's Queenstown Story has a wider focus on emigration and maritime history. These are separate attractions with separate admission arrangements.

Choose Cork city for a longer independent outing: travel in by train, select a city destination in advance and leave Cobh's museums for another visit if the transfer consumes too much of the call. Combining both towns with additional countryside stops calls for an excursion with a clear return commitment.

Practical Information

  • Currency: euro (€).
  • Emergency services: 112 or 999.
  • Keep the ship's all-aboard time and berth name with you; “Port of Cork” alone is an ambiguous return destination.
  • Check attraction admission arrangements directly.
