Dublin Port's 2026 tendering notice describes passenger ships at the bay anchorage transferring passengers into Dún Laoghaire Harbour. The county council's published landing specification identifies the passenger tender pontoon at St Michael's Pier, Berth 4.

The pontoon specification includes a 30 m ramp and a secondary stepped route. The ship-to-tender transfer is vessel-specific, so passengers taking a wheelchair or mobility aid need the ship's boarding instructions.

On landing, locate the return tender entrance before leaving the harbour. Take the last-tender instruction from the ship; a train arriving before the ship's sailing time may still be too late.

About this port

Dún Laoghaire is a separate arrival harbour from Dublin Port. For ships using the Dublin Bay anchorage, passengers come ashore by tender and can either stay around the harbour or take the DART into Dublin. The harbour has documented facilities and procedures for cruise tenders.

A local visit avoids an additional train journey after the tender crossing. Dublin offers more city attractions, but you need to reserve time for the train back and the queue to rejoin the ship.

Getting Around

For Dublin: Dún Laoghaire (Mallin) station is on Crofton Road beside the harbour area. The DART reaches Dublin city-centre stations in about 20 minutes, and the adult Leap fare within Zone 1 is €2.00 one way (checked 2026-09-08). Returning from Dublin, select a southbound train that stops at Dún Laoghaire and allow time to get from the station back to the tender queue.

For a local visit: the National Maritime Museum is on Haigh Terrace, a short walk from the station. It can be combined with a harbour walk without travelling into central Dublin. A taxi into the city removes the rail journey but adds road-traffic uncertainty; pre-arrange the collection point and return if choosing this option.

Things to Do

Maritime Museum and harbour: the National Maritime Museum's exhibits are housed in the former Mariners' Church. Its visitor information describes wheelchair access to the main museum, with the gallery excluded. Discuss any particular access needs with the museum and separately with the ship.

A walk beside the water: the East Pier is a local harbour outing. Turn back according to the time and conditions rather than feeling obliged to walk its full length. Pairing this with the museum leaves more flexibility for a delayed tender arrival.

A Dublin visit: take the DART only after selecting the destination and its entry arrangements. One reserved attraction plus time nearby is easier to fit around two tender transfers than a sequence of timed visits across the city.
