Luka Koper’s cruise terminal has an alongside quay about 420 m long. The port also publishes offshore anchorage capability, but this is not evidence that tendering is common practice; access is classified as dock.

Follow the marked passenger exit before starting the three-minute walk to Tito Square.

About this port

Koper offers a practical option for a short independent town visit: Luka Koper places the cruise terminal about 200 m from the old city centre. That distance is a useful indication of proximity, but it does not describe a level route to every attraction. The Bastion lift connects the waterfront area with the old town, while the bell-tower visit involves a substantial stair climb.

Build a short visit around the square and one attraction, then add more only after checking the time remaining before return to the ship.

Getting Around

The official visitor information describes a panoramic lift at Bastion Belveder connecting the passenger-terminal area with the old town. It provides an alternative to the climb on foot; some cobbled old-town streets and side streets with stairs can still be difficult for wheelchair users.

The terminal lists taxi and public-bus connections. For a short call focused on the old town, a longer transfer is unnecessary once you can use the local pedestrian route. A trip beyond Koper needs a separate outward and return plan.

Things to Do

Start at the tourist information centre

The Praetorian Palace on Tito Square houses the tourist information centre at Titov trg 3. Use it to check the day’s palace access before committing to an interior visit. The palace still serves municipal functions, and the official visitor page notes that events can prevent guided tours.

Choose a climb or remain around the square

The city bell tower on Tito Square has a history exhibition, Upright History, listed by Visit Koper from June 2026. Reaching the viewpoint involves 204 steps. Choose it for the combination of the exhibition and the view only if that climb suits you; allow enough time to descend and return without hurrying.

The palace exterior and Bastion viewpoint offer a simpler town visit if you prefer to omit the tower. Choose an interior tour or the climb as the main activity rather than booking both tightly against the ship’s return deadline.

Getting back to your ship

The terminal lists taxi and public-bus connections. For a short call focused on the old town, a longer transfer is unnecessary once you can use the local pedestrian route. A trip beyond Koper needs a separate outward and return plan.

Practical Information

Slovenia uses the euro. For police, ambulance or fire emergencies, call 112, free of charge in the EU.

Check attraction admission and tour arrangements for your chosen date. The palace page includes date-specific tour information and requires advance booking for its advertised guided visits.
