The port authority lists dock facilities across Marittima, Fusina, Marghera and Chioggia. Venezia Terminal Passeggeri's current embarkation guidance, checked on 8 September 2026, makes this distinction:
| Ship's berth | Published check-in arrangement | | --- | --- | | Marghera | Check in at the assigned Marittima terminal; a free dedicated shuttle then takes passengers to the ship. | | Fusina | Check in and board at Fusina. | | Marittima or San Basilio | Check in and board at the respective terminal. | | Chioggia | Check in and board at Chioggia. |
These are the operator's general embarkation instructions. Your cruise documents determine the terminal and reporting time for your sailing. On a transit call at Marghera, use the ship's designated shore transfer and return meeting point.
About this port
A Venice cruise visit begins with the terminal name. Marittima, Marghera, Fusina and Chioggia have different passenger arrangements, and the place where you check in can differ from the ship's berth. Establish both before booking transport or museum admission.
Getting Around
From Marittima, the terminal operator directs passengers to the People Mover near the port entrance for Piazzale Roma, an access point to the historic city. VTP also gives a realistic walking alternative of about 15 minutes between its building 248 and Piazzale Roma; reach that part of Marittima first. Include the walk out of your assigned terminal and waiting time when taking the People Mover.
From Fusina, Venezia Unica lists road and sea connections with Venice. First establish how your cruise terminal connects with the public passenger facilities: the name Fusina alone is not a pick-up point. From Marghera, use the ship's specified transfer and meeting place. Chioggia is a separate town at the southern end of the lagoon, so a visit there can make better use of a short call than travelling into Venice.
Within Venice, walking and vaporetto waterbuses can be combined. Choose your district after learning where the shore transfer finishes. Bridges interrupt pedestrian routes, and a route that is short on a map may involve steps. The municipality publishes itineraries designed around accessible waterbus stops and streets; check the whole journey, including the cruise transfer, if step-free access is essential.
Things to Do
- Dorsoduro with one gallery: choose the Gallerie dell'Accademia as the main interior, then the nearby Zattere waterfront. The museum gives Accademia as its waterbus stop and publishes walking directions from Zattere. Check its access notices before booking if you need lifts or platforms.
- San Marco with the Doge's Palace: keep the palace and surrounding square as one focused visit. The museum's public entrance is Porta del Frumento in Piazzetta San Marco. As checked on 7 September 2026, holders of St Mark's Square Museums tickets without a specific entry slot are admitted to the palace only from 12 noon; this can rule out that ticket for a morning-only visit.
- Chioggia when berthed there: explore the town around Corso del Popolo once outside the passenger area. This local option avoids committing the day to a Venice transfer.
For a half-day call, choose one of these areas and at most one substantial interior. Leave a buffer before the return transfer rather than trying to add lagoon islands or a second district at the end.
Getting back to your ship
We haven't written separate return advice for this port yet. The arrival section and getting around cover the routes back.
Practical Information
Italy uses the euro; call 112 in an emergency. On 7 September 2026, the municipal portal stated that the 2026 access-fee trial had ended: from 27 July 2026, neither payment nor an exemption request was required. Check that official portal for later visits.
Ask the cruise line about accessible transfer capacity before sailing. Museum accessibility and an accessible vaporetto route do not, by themselves, confirm access between your berth and the city.
