The Stazione Marittima cruise terminal is on Molo dei Bersaglieri beside the waterfront opposite Piazza Unità d'Italia. MSC's published port directions give Molo dei Bersaglieri 3 as its cruise-terminal address; the municipal visitor map independently confirms the pier's position beside the centre.

These directions apply to the central pier; retain the terminal and passenger-exit name shown in your cruise documents for your return. Once cleared out of the terminal, the square and central streets can be reached on foot.

About this port

For a ship assigned to Molo dei Bersaglieri, central Trieste starts just beyond the cruise terminal. A waterfront and city-centre visit is the natural choice for a short call. Miramare adds a separate journey and a walk through its grounds, so allow it the larger share of a longer day.

Getting Around

Use the waterfront as the spine of a local walk. Piazza Unità d'Italia, the streets around Piazza della Borsa and the Canal Grande fit together without a second transport booking. San Giusto Castle is uphill: choose between that climb and a lower-level waterfront outing according to your mobility and time.

If the climb is difficult, you can request the castle's lift from Viale della Rimembranza by calling +39 040 309362. The armoury and Roman stonework rooms still have level changes with no step-free alternative; see the museum's access guide for details.

For Miramare, Trieste Trasporti's line 6 runs via viale Miramare near Trieste Centrale station to Grignano. Line 36 to Bivio di Miramare doesn't run in October: under the winter timetable, it operates only on weekends and public holidays in September and May (checked 2026-10-15). Consult the operator's current route pages for your travel date.

The stop matters. The museum describes approximately 200 metres from the Grignano terminus to a park entrance and another 350 metres to the castle. From Bivio di Miramare it gives 750 metres to the entrance, then about 500 metres through the park. Neither bus delivers you to the castle door. Check the museum's access guidance if steps or gradients would be a problem, and include the walk back to the stop in your return plan.

Things to Do

  • Waterfront and Canal Grande: a flexible central outing, with the seafront square as a starting point and the canal area for a café stop. Shorten the loop when needed without depending on a return train or ferry.
  • San Giusto Castle: a city-centre alternative with ramparts overlooking the gulf and a museum including the armoury and Roman stonework collections. The standard ticket is €7. Winter hours are Tuesday–Sunday, 10:00–17:00, from 11 October to 31 March, with last entry at 16:30. Holiday exceptions apply; see the museum's opening information. Price and hours checked 2026-10-15.
  • Miramare: make the coastal castle and park the main destination if you have a longer call. You can visit the park for free, or buy a ticket for the castle interiors. The park's seasonal hours are 08:00–17:00 on 15–31 October and 08:00–16:00 from November to January (checked 2026-10-15). Its furnished interiors and grounds need time in addition to the bus journey. Return to central Trieste before adding further sightseeing.

A half day is better used for the central loop with one museum than for trying to combine both castles.

Practical Information

Italy uses the euro; 112 is the emergency number. Buy the appropriate transport ticket through the operator's listed channels and check its conditions before boarding. For limited mobility, confirm both the ship-to-street route and the chosen attraction's entrance; the hill and park routes should not be inferred from a flat city map.
