Ships dock alongside in Trapani. West Sicily Gate names Banchina Garibaldi in its published berthing policy, and the port authority's MedCruise profile puts the cruise port in the city centre. Once you're cleared to leave the port, you can explore the historic streets on foot.

Before you book an independent pickup, confirm your allocated quay and meeting point. Follow your ship's directions for the permitted pedestrian route or any required transfer through the port. If walking through the port would be difficult, arrange assistance in advance.

About this port

In Trapani, you can spend the day at sea level or head up to hilltop Erice. The historic centre sits on the peninsula beside the harbour, with churches, cafés and streets that can make a satisfying short walk. Erice has medieval lanes and views over western Sicily, but the transport connections take a larger share of your time ashore.

If your call is short, stay in Trapani and leave time for lunch. With a longer call, make Erice your main outing, then fit in the waterfront afterwards if you have time. Combining Erice, the salt pans and an archaeological excursion leaves you little room to adjust the return journey.

Getting Around

Keep your old-town walk flexible. Use Via Torrearsa and Corso Vittorio Emanuele to find your way, then head back towards the harbour when you've used roughly half your available time. If you walk out to Torre di Ligny, you'll extend the route to the western end of the peninsula.

Erice's lower cable-car station is away from the historic centre, on SP 31 at the corner of Via Capua. ATM's route 23 passes Via Ammiraglio Staiti and serves Via Cosenza (Funivia/Ospedale). Route 202 serves the cable-car area on Sundays and public holidays. The bus terminal isn't your cruise berth. A 90-minute urban ticket costs €1.20 bought in advance or €1.50 on board; validate it when boarding. Bus routes and fares checked 2026-10-12.

The cable car is closed from 3 November to 4 December 2026, according to the operator's timetable checked 2026-10-31. During the closure, plan Erice as a road outing. For later visits, check the timetable before arranging the connection. The standard fare is €9 one way or €15 return (prices checked 2026-10-12).

Give yourself time for the bus journey, waiting and the descent, as well as the visit to Erice. An arranged taxi or ship excursion can make the road transfer simpler; agree how you'll get back before you leave Trapani. If you need assistance, contact the cable-car operator in advance.

Things to Do

A circuit through the old town. Start in the streets around Corso Vittorio Emanuele and the cathedral, then look for Chiesa del Purgatorio. Inside are the sculptural groups associated with Trapani's Good Friday procession. Check access locally and give worshippers space. Continue to the sea-facing end of town if you prefer open views to another indoor visit. Visit Sicily describes the principal landmarks.

Erice as the main outing. Explore the paved lanes around the Duomo dell'Assunta and the Castello di Venere area. Pick a circuit you can comfortably manage, rather than trying to enter every monument, and wear shoes with good grip. You can pause for a pastry before heading back towards your transport. The regional tourism itinerary describes these sights and Erice's genovesi pastries.

A local lunch. Fish couscous and busiate alla trapanese are regional choices. If you eat in Trapani after your longer outing, it's easier to judge how much time you have left before boarding.

Getting back to your ship

Give yourself time for the bus journey, waiting and the descent, as well as the visit to Erice. An arranged taxi or ship excursion can make the road transfer simpler; agree how you'll get back before you leave Trapani. If you need assistance, contact the cable-car operator in advance.

Practical Information

Italy uses the euro (€), and Italian is the official language. Call 112 in an emergency. Take the ship's local contact details and the identification it requires to let you back on board.

Bring water and sun protection, and allow for uneven paving in historic streets. Check the opening arrangements for each church and attraction; don't assume you can go inside throughout the day.

Getting back: Leave enough time for the final port checks as well as the journey back.
