Check CTM’s Matteotti timetable for your date; Easter, Christmas and New Year have special services.
Cruise ships dock in the historic port. The port authority describes shuttle connections between ships and the entrance. Its Sant'Agostino checkpoint, on Molo Sabaudo, opened in December 2024 with a waiting area, accessible toilets and space to wait for ship shuttles. This is the port access facility; cruise berths are on Molo Rinascita.
Keep the shuttle return stop with your ship details. Piazza Matteotti, facing the port area, is the interchange for the railway, ARST buses and city buses.
About this port
A Cagliari day is best planned around the climb: the Marina quarter lies by the passenger port, while Castello occupies a hill above it. Choose the lower town for a gentler visit, or make the cathedral quarter and its viewpoints the main outing. Poetto beach is an alternative when you have time for a bus journey.
Getting Around
Marina offers a lower-town walk without committing to Castello's climb. For the upper town, the municipality describes walking approaches via Via Manno and Via Mazzini, or steps from Piazza Yenne. Ask for a suitable vehicle drop-off if those approaches exceed your mobility; a taxi ride does not establish step-free access inside the district.
Municipal visitor information identifies CTM buses from Piazza Matteotti towards Poetto and Molentargius. Check the actual destination stop and return service before leaving: the beach and wetland park need different plans. For a short call, choose a city walk. With longer ashore, make either the upper town or an outing towards the beach your main commitment.
Things to Do
- Marina: the waterfront historic quarter, useful for a meal and a walk close to the port side of town.
- Cathedral of Santa Maria: on Piazza Palazzo in Castello; combine it with nearby lanes if the climb is manageable.
- Saint Remy Bastion: a terrace linking the lower streets with the upper quarter; its monumental staircase is part of the route choice.
- Poetto or Molentargius: a beach visit or wetland outing, with transport arranged for that destination rather than an attempt to combine both in a short call.
