  • America Terminal, berth 36: a central quay on the city side of the river, within walking reach of Järntorget, Haga and Linné. Use the terminal’s pedestrian exit and the marked walking route.
  • Arendal, berth 751: an outer-harbour berth. Plan a road transfer; the port authority gives about 20 minutes by bus or taxi, an estimate checked on 2026-09-08. The port’s visitor map advises against walking from Arendal; retain your ship’s shuttle return instructions.
  • Skandia and Älvsborg: additional berths on Hisingen, around 9 km from the centre according to the port. At Älvsborg, independent movement inside the secure port is prohibited; passengers use a free port bus to the gate, or authorised buses alongside the ship. A gate transfer and a city transfer are separate stages.

Record your terminal name before arranging a taxi back. “The cruise terminal” is insufficient here.

About this port

Your berth determines the shape of a Gothenburg day. From the America Terminal, the nearby Maritime Museum and Aquarium or the streets towards Haga make useful local choices. From the outer harbour, budget for transport into the city before deciding how much sightseeing fits.

The former Volvo Museum beside Arendal closed in December 2023. Its successor, World of Volvo, is at Lyckholms Torg 1 in the city and requires a separate journey.

Getting Around

For an America Terminal call, a local museum visit followed by a walk towards Haga avoids spending much of the day in transfers. For an outer-harbour call, choose one part of the city and establish the return pickup before exploring.

Check museum admission separately from transport. Compare the journeys you actually need before choosing a transport ticket or attraction pass.

Things to Do

  • Maritime Museum and Aquarium: at Karl Johansgatan 1–3, near the America Terminal. Exhibitions cover seafaring and the underwater environment, giving a useful indoor option close to this berth. Check its visitor page before committing your call to it.
  • Haga and Järntorget: a walking-and-café option from the central terminal. Keep enough time for the return walk rather than adding another distant attraction at the end.
  • World of Volvo: choose this if the vehicles and exhibitions are your priority. Some of the former museum's collection is displayed here, but the Arendal building is no longer the visitor destination.

Getting back to your ship

For an America Terminal call, a local museum visit followed by a walk towards Haga avoids spending much of the day in transfers. For an outer-harbour call, choose one part of the city and establish the return pickup before exploring.

Practical Information

Currency: Swedish krona (SEK). Carry a payment card. Call 112 in an emergency.

For limited mobility, confirm the gangway, any port bus and the chosen attraction separately. Do not infer step-free access from a dock berth.
