Arrival & Getting Ashore
Getting to the centre: Ocean Cay cruise pier to the Welcome Centre at Ocean Village.
- Walk: a practical walk directly off the ship, following the island entrance route to the Welcome Centre. MSC describes signed walking paths around the destination in its Ocean Cay FAQ.
There is no tender stage on the normal arrival. Stop at the Welcome Centre for an island map and activity information before choosing a beach. If your group splits up, agree a named meeting point rather than simply saying “by the ship”.
Beach wheelchairs can be requested for collection at the pier. Discuss your own gangway and equipment requirements with the ship in advance; a chair for sand and assistance leaving the vessel are separate needs.
About this port
Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve is MSC's private island destination in the Bahamas. The ship docks directly beside the island, making a beach visit easy to combine with a break in your cabin. Plan around beaches, water activities and the island's conservation centre; this is a self-contained call rather than an arrival beside a Bahamian town.
Some itineraries include evening or overnight time here. Use your own voyage's programme to decide whether to return ashore after dinner: an extended stay advertised for another sailing does not change your departure deadline.
Getting Around
Walking is the usual way to explore, with golf carts also following an island route. These vehicles circulate within Ocean Cay; they are not a transfer to Bimini or a mainland town. Ask the Welcome Centre which stop serves your intended beach.
Use the map to plan your own circuit, especially if adding food stops or travelling with someone who needs frequent rests. Choosing a beach and lunch venue in the same part of the island keeps the day simpler than repeatedly crossing between different areas.
Things to Do
Pick a beach for your group: MSC's destination information describes North and South beaches beside the lagoon and Seakers Cove as a family area. Bimini Beach offers a different, outward-looking setting. Ocean House Beach is reserved for MSC Yacht Club guests, so choose from the areas included with your booking.
Spend part of the day on the water: kayaking, snorkelling and guided water activities feature in the island programme. Decide whether you want a rental to use at your own pace or an organised excursion before reserving. An activity with a fixed meeting time is easiest to combine with a nearby beach rather than repeated crossings of the island.
Visit the Marine Conservation Center: the MSC Foundation's annual report confirms that the centre opened in April 2025 and welcomes visitors alongside its coral-restoration and education work. Its team explains why reef conservation matters, giving the day a useful focus beyond swimming. Look for the visitor programme available during your call; the centre's research work is not an invitation to enter coral nurseries independently.
If your sailing stays into the evening, the lighthouse entertainment offers another reason to linger. Follow that day's programme rather than assuming a show runs at a fixed time on every visit.
Getting back to your ship
Retrace the signed paths to Ocean Village and the cruise pier. The main variables are distance from your chosen beach, any cart wait and boarding queues. Beaches close progressively before sunset even on longer calls, so distinguish beach closing time from the ship's all-aboard time. Keep enough time for the full return from the sand, rather than starting back when you first notice others leaving.
Practical Information
Carry your Cruise Card for island purchases and reboarding, together with any identification the ship requires. Take a towel from the ship or collect one at the island entrance, and return it as directed.
Pack a reusable water bottle and refill before disembarking. MSC's AQUA information says its onboard mineral-enriched refill system is not yet available on Ocean Cay. This does not mean you must buy water ashore: the island FAQ lists complimentary water at bars and buffets, plus fountains near toilets. Both checked 2026-09-25; other drinks depend on your package terms.
The destination offers barbecue buffets and other food outlets. Allow time for lunch within their operating hours, especially before an afternoon activity. Sun protection, a hat and a dry pouch for your card are useful even on a short beach visit.
