Arrival & Getting Ashore

Getting to the centre: Baie-Comeau cruise pier to Place LaSalle in the Marquette sector.

  • Walk: The port-supplied destination sheet gives approximately 20 minutes from pier to town centre, identified as Place LaSalle. This is a reasonable walking option for passengers comfortable with that duration; follow the pedestrian route released by port staff for your berth.

The port provides alongside cruise berths and a Cruise Pavilion. Follow your ship’s berthing announcement and the port staff’s route out of the secured area; the exact gangway and exit depend on the assigned berth.

The destination sheet describes a town shuttle journey of about ten minutes. Take the call-specific pickup, destination and final return details from the welcome team before boarding. This describes transport into town; it should not be confused with any short transfer within the secured berth area. Walking time does not include delays disembarking or getting through the port.

About this port

Baie-Comeau is a working port on Québec’s North Shore, visited by ocean-cruise ships travelling the St Lawrence. For a straightforward day, concentrate on Place LaSalle and the historic Marquette sector. A hydroelectric-station visit offers a very different view of the region, but needs a reservation, transport and a suitable operating date. The town’s two sectors make the destination name alone an imprecise instruction for a driver.

Getting Around

Place LaSalle is the useful starting point for a compact visit. Keep the nearby heritage sights together, rather than crossing between Marquette and Mingan simply because both appear under Baie-Comeau in a search result.

The municipal bus connects the two sectors. Its 2026 leaflet lists an adult single ticket at C$4 and requires exact coins; the Marquette-to-Mingan route includes Parc des Pionniers. These details were checked on 2026-10-02 against the city’s leaflet. Sunday and listed holiday exclusions make it unsuitable as an assumed everyday fallback. This is a town service, not a verified cruise-pier pickup.

For an outing inland, arrange transport with a specific collection point and return time. Set the cruise port as the final destination rather than the ferry service or an unspecified address in town.

Things to Do

Explore Place LaSalle. The port promotes an audio guide for independent exploration of the town centre. Use that to give a short walk some context, then leave time for a drink or browsing before returning. This is the least complicated choice when the call is short or you prefer to stay near town.

Visit Sainte-Amélie church. The municipal tourism office singles out its frescoes as a cultural attraction. Make it the focus of a heritage walk rather than assuming the church is always open between services. Arrange a visit through the church’s visitor contact page. Its displayed summer timetable still refers to 2023, so use direct confirmation for your date.

Consider Manic-2 in season. The Jean-Lesage generating station is an organised industrial visit, not an unrestricted dam viewpoint. Tourisme Côte-Nord gives a general location about 30 minutes north of Baie-Comeau and an average guided visit of 90 minutes. Its published public-tour season is June–August 2026, with reservations required (checked 2026-10-02). Autumn cruise passengers should book only an explicitly available tour, not assume that summer admissions continue. Add both road journeys to the tour itself when judging whether it fits.

Getting back to your ship

Return to the cruise port and your assigned berth. If using the town shuttle, record its actual return stop and last service before exploring; do not substitute the municipal bus timetable. For Manic-2, include the end of the guided visit, loading and the road journey in your return plan. Your ship’s all-aboard time, rather than its sailing time, is the deadline to work towards.

Practical Information

Budget in Canadian dollars and keep coins if using the municipal bus. Save French place names with your directions: Place LaSalle, Marquette and the cruise port are more useful than a generic request for downtown.

The Cruise Pavilion’s published facilities include tourist information, toilets, souvenir and artisan stalls, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Use the welcome stop to settle your return arrangements before leaving. Carry a weatherproof layer for the exposed waterfront and comfortable shoes for town walking.
