Arrival & Getting Ashore

Getting to the centre: Gaspé tender reception terminal to downtown Gaspé.

  • Walk: a realistic town outing; the destination's navigation guide gives about 15 minutes from the reception terminal to downtown. This applies after tendering, not from Sandy Beach.
  • Shuttle: Destination Gaspé offers a guided town shuttle by prior arrangement for tender calls, with a cost depending on the booking. Obtain your sailing’s pickup and passenger terms aboard.
  • Step-free: the tender landing has two gangways described as wheelchair accessible. Boarding the tender itself still requires the ship's assessment.

Anchored ships use boats to reach the landing by the marina, with tourist information and excursion vehicles near the reception building. Take the ship's tender instructions before leaving; the harbour crossing is part of the journey in both directions.

Getting to the centre — Sandy Beach dock to downtown Gaspé.

  • Distance: approximately 4 km, with an eight-minute drive, according to the official navigation guide.
  • Shuttle: a passenger town shuttle is available for cruise calls. Obtain the service and pickup arrangements for your sailing aboard.
  • Public transport: RÉGÎM route 24 serves Route 132/rue du Quai and Place Jacques-Cartier on weekdays; the bus stop is outside the berth. Its limited timetable needs to fit both directions of your visit (checked 2026-10-02).

The two arrivals have different approaches to town. The tender reception building's walking estimate does not describe the route from Sandy Beach.

About this port

Gaspé offers a choice between a manageable town visit and a longer outing into the peninsula's coastal landscape. The town's waterfront heritage site and regional museum make a useful pairing for a shorter call. Forillon National Park suits passengers who have arranged transport and want more time outdoors.

Your starting point matters. Ships use both Gaspé anchorage and Sandy Beach dock, with quite different journeys ashore. Percé is another port option promoted by the same destination organisation; a call there is not an arrival in Gaspé town.

Getting Around

Walking works for the town portion of a tender visit. Collect a map at reception and choose your furthest attraction before setting off, so the return does not become an unplanned extra walk.

RÉGÎM's route 24 connects Gaspé, Sandy Beach and Haldimand. Its published timetable, checked 2026-10-02, is a weekday service, with some reservation-only stops; it is not a continuous cruise shuttle. The stop at Route 132/rue du Quai is outside the berth. Use the actual outbound and return timetable before considering it, rather than assuming the bus will meet your ship.

For Forillon or a broader peninsula tour, arrange the full return journey before departure. A town transfer does not include a national park excursion. Choose one main destination rather than trying to combine every coastal attraction during a short call.

Things to Do

Gaspé, Berceau du Canada recreates the town's early twentieth-century waterfront through historic and reconstructed buildings. Its interpretation covers the area's communities from First Nations to later inhabitants. The riverside setting makes it a natural focus for a town walk; the attraction's name should not be mistaken for a claim that Canadian history began with European arrival.

Musée de la Gaspésie, at 80 boulevard Gaspé, adds regional exhibitions and an outdoor collection of monuments and sculpture. The published standard adult admission is C$20 including tax, checked 2026-10-02. Use the museum's own seasonal hours when planning an autumn visit, particularly on Mondays.

Forillon National Park is the choice for a landscape-led excursion. Parks Canada divides the park into distinct areas, so select a particular beach, trail or historic area with your driver or excursion operator. Do not treat the park entrance as the end of the travelling: leave time to reach your chosen activity and return.

Getting back to your ship

A tender call ends at the ship's return-boat queue, not at the waterfront attraction. Follow the last-tender time issued aboard. For Sandy Beach, return to the agreed shuttle pickup or arrange a vehicle to the dock; walking advice for the marina arrival does not apply. On a longer excursion, include the road journey and any transfer or tender wait when working backwards from all-aboard.

Practical Information

Carry a windproof layer and shoes suitable for both quay surfaces and the walking you have chosen. Bring water for an outing beyond town. Keep the ship's contact details and landing instructions available offline, and pay particular attention to whether your return point is the marina reception area or Sandy Beach.

For reduced mobility, discuss the boat transfer separately from shore facilities. An accessible landing gangway does not establish that a particular tender, coach or walking itinerary will work for you.
