Ships dock at Canada Place; Holland America gives the passenger address as 999 Canada Place. Follow the ship's disembarkation instructions and terminal signs to the street or ground-transport area. The port's passenger guidance separates baggage collection, border formalities and onward transport, so a published arrival time is not the time you should promise to meet a driver.

If embarking, follow your cruise line's assigned arrival arrangements. Keep passports and medication out of checked luggage, and allow for check-in, security and applicable border processing. A waterfront sightseeing visit does not replace those formalities. Arrange boarding assistance with the cruise line before travelling.

About this port

Canada Place puts Vancouver cruise passengers on the downtown waterfront, with city streets and the harbour promenade immediately relevant to a day ashore. It is also an embarkation port, so distinguish a transit visit from the more involved business of checking luggage and joining a ship. For a short visit, choose Gastown or a section of the Coal Harbour waterfront. A full Stanley Park circuit needs considerably more time than its proximity on a city map might suggest.

If Juneau or Skagway is also on your itinerary, use the guide to plan that day ashore.

Getting Around

Waterfront Station is the useful transport hub for journeys beyond downtown. The Canada Line connects it with YVR Airport; select an airport train on the return, since the line also serves Richmond–Brighouse. TransLink estimates approximately 25 minutes between Waterfront and YVR, excluding the terminal walk, waiting and airport procedures. Visitor transport guide.

For local travel, an adult one-zone cash-rate or contactless ticket costs C$3.50, checked 2026-10-02. All buses use that zone rate; SkyTrain and SeaBus prices depend on the journey and time. Trips originating at YVR normally add C$6.50 to the applicable fare. Use the same payment card or device throughout a journey, and tap out at rail gates. These are network fares, not a charge for reaching downtown from the ship. TransLink fares.

Things to Do

Gastown is a good compact outing for architecture, independent shops and a meal. The Steam Clock stands at 305 Water Street; use it as an orientation point rather than the whole purpose of the visit. Destination Vancouver's Gastown guide describes the cobbled streets and heritage buildings that make the wider district rewarding to explore.

For open space, follow the waterfront towards Coal Harbour and Stanley Park. An out-and-back walk lets you turn round when needed. The city gives the park's seawall circuit as 9 km and approximately two to three hours on foot, before adding the approach from Canada Place. Walkers and cyclists have separate marked sections. City seawall guide.

SeaBus offers another kind of outing: a passenger-ferry crossing to the North Shore from Waterfront. Treat it as a separate excursion with a return connection, especially if combining it with anything beyond the opposite terminal.

Getting back to your ship

Return to Canada Place and your ship's signed entrance. Road transfers can be affected by traffic and taxi queues; Holland America specifically warns of long taxi waits when several ships are in port. A SeaBus outing adds ferry waiting time, while a long seawall walk leaves a substantial distance to retrace. Set your turnaround around the ship's all-aboard deadline. On embarkation day, use the cruise line's check-in deadline instead of treating sailing time as your arrival target.

Practical Information

Use Canadian dollars for local spending. A rain layer and shoes comfortable on both pavements and cobbled streets suit these outings. If your cruise ends here and you want to explore before a flight, Holland America lists luggage storage at Canada Place; establish collection arrangements before handing bags over. Keep cruise documents and essential medication with you while exploring.
