Expect a tender transfer. Holland America lists Quepos as a tender port, and Windstar describes its ships anchoring here. The marina marks a dedicated cruise arrival point; note it before leaving for town. This guide’s town route applies to Marina Pez Vela; follow any different landing instructions issued for your sailing.
The marina map distinguishes sea level from street level and marks lifts. Those facilities do not remove the need to board a moving tender. Discuss the boat transfer with the ship if you have limited mobility, and use the crew's instructions for your call.
About this port
Quepos is a Pacific fishing town whose cruise appeal extends from its waterfront to Manuel Antonio National Park. Marina Pez Vela provides a useful arrival base, while forest walks and mangrove excursions require onward travel. Decide whether the park is the day's priority before sailing: its entry arrangements can determine the whole outing.
A shorter call can still work well as a town-and-marina visit. Restaurants and shops beside the boats offer an easy pause, with the town's boardwalk and market giving a different setting from the marina's commercial plaza.
Getting Around
Manuel Antonio requires a separate road journey from town. The marina's map also gives an indicative US$15 one-way taxi price to Manuel Antonio (checked 2026-10-02); establish the exact drop-off and whether the quote includes your party before setting off. This estimate should not be read as a guaranteed park-gate fare or a return booking.
For a pre-booked visit, arrange the return collection at the same time as the outward transfer. SINAC warns that the single road linking Quepos and Manuel Antonio becomes busy during peak visitation. A short distance on a map can therefore take longer than expected.
Things to Do
Manuel Antonio National Park: Combine forest trails and coastal scenery, with wildlife as a possibility rather than a guaranteed sighting. SINAC lists the main entrance 7 km from Quepos, a town-to-park figure rather than a distance from the tender dock. Buy admission through the official online system. As checked on 2026-10-02, the regular park schedule is 07:00–15:00, Wednesday to Monday, closed Tuesday, and adult non-resident admission is US$18.08 including tax. Keep the ticket's entry arrangements compatible with the first available tender.
Damas mangrove boat trip: The tourism board describes boat outings from Quepos through Damas Island’s mangroves and estuary. This offers a different habitat from Manuel Antonio’s forest trails. When comparing trips, ask how the marina transfer fits around the boat excursion and agree the return collection point before leaving.
Quepos at your own pace: Follow the marina's map to the boardwalk and central market, or stay around the marina for lunch. This is a useful alternative if park entry is sold out, the park is closed or the available shore time is short.
Getting back to your ship
Return to the cruise tender landing inside Marina Pez Vela, not simply to central Quepos. Allow for traffic from Manuel Antonio, the walk through the marina and a tender queue. Use the ship's last-tender instruction as your deadline; the vessel's sailing time is later in the process. Do not extend a town stop after an excursion without knowing how it affects your tender connection.
Practical Information
Take walking shoes and a refillable water bottle. SINAC prohibits bringing food onto the park's beaches and trails; plan refreshments around its designated facilities. Keep food away from wildlife and leave animals undisturbed. The marina map identifies toilets, an ATM and a taxi stop, useful before committing to an excursion.
