Ships berth alongside at the purpose-built terminal, which has two cruise berths. This is a docking port, rather than a routine tender stop. The passenger complex contains shops, artisan stalls and restaurants, so you can spend a limited amount of time ashore without organising an excursion. The shopping area is only the first part of a visit: Water Square and the historic streets are outside it.
Follow the passenger exit and retain the ship's return instructions. Anyone who needs assistance should arrange the gangway transfer with the cruise line before arrival; a walkable shopping area does not establish access from every ship.
About this port
Falmouth offers a useful choice between staying in a historic Jamaican town and heading inland for a river outing. Its Georgian buildings and Water Square give a short visit a focus beyond the terminal shops. Martha Brae rafting makes a more substantial excursion, while trips to Ocho Rios or Montego Bay introduce a longer road journey. Choose the part of Jamaica you want to see before committing most of your call to transport.
This is Falmouth in Trelawny, Jamaica, distinct from the ports of the same name in Antigua and Cornwall. Excursions advertised from Falmouth can cover a wide area; an attraction appearing in the cruise brochure need not be in town.
Getting Around
For the town, a guided heritage walk links the architecture with Falmouth's trading history. For Martha Brae, Good Hope or a beach outing, arrange a return vehicle or an excursion with the transfers included. Use a private charter taxi for an outing with agreed stops; the tourism board distinguishes these from shared route taxis. Agree the destination, currency, waiting arrangement and return pickup before departure.
Do not confuse a sightseeing trolley tour with public transport to another town. A local outing also leaves more flexibility than trying to combine attractions at opposite ends of the north coast.
Things to Do
Water Square and the historic streets: make this the focus of a town visit, adding the courthouse and St Peter's Anglican Church to a heritage walk. The buildings tell a story tied to the sugar trade and slavery, rather than simply providing decorative façades. A guide can help put the surviving streetscape in context. Leave time for a patty or a meal instead of treating town as a quick photo stop.
Martha Brae rafting: a captain poles a bamboo raft along the river. The operator gives approximately 1 hour 15 minutes on the water, depending on river conditions; travel and waiting are additional. Life vests are provided, and guests are processed in arrival order. This is a good main activity for a day when you want countryside rather than a succession of shopping stops. Operator information, checked 2026-10-02.
Good Hope: the former sugar estate now offers activities including river tubing and ziplines. The tourism board estimates around 20 minutes' drive from the port. Pick a package for its actual activities and transfer arrangements; the estate visit and an active river programme need different clothing and energy levels.
Getting back to your ship
Return to Historic Falmouth cruise terminal, not a hotel or a meeting point in Montego Bay. On an independent river trip, agree where the driver will collect you after rafting and leave room for the boarding queue as well as the journey. Longer north-coast excursions make road delays more consequential. Work backwards from your ship's all-aboard time, including the walk through the terminal complex and security.
Practical Information
Establish whether a price is in Jamaican or US dollars before paying. Carry sun protection and drinking water for a town walk, and keep swimwear, a towel and dry belongings separate for river activities. Wear comfortable clothing and footwear for getting into and out of the raft.
