Princess says its ships normally berth at Turtle Bay Pier, with some calls at James Bond/Reynolds Pier. The port authority lists alongside berths at both, supporting docking as the normal arrival method. Its provision for a ship's own tenders is a contingency, not evidence that every visit involves a boat transfer.
The western James Bond Pier is also called Reynolds Pier. A government infrastructure report records a promenade linking the Reynolds cruise facilities with town. Follow the port's designated passenger route rather than relying on a walking estimate given for the other terminal. Keep your berth name with your ship details for the return journey.
About this port
Ocho Rios works particularly well for a day built around a waterfall visit, followed by food or shopping in town. Dunn's River Falls is the best-known option, but the activity involves more than looking at a waterfall: decide whether you want to climb in the water or enjoy the surrounding park. Island Village offers a less demanding alternative centred on shops, food and a seaside setting.
The first practical decision is identifying your pier. Turtle Bay and James Bond/Reynolds are parts of the same cruise destination, with different pickup and return points. An excursion labelled simply “Ocho Rios port” needs to match the one your ship uses.
Getting Around
Choose a taxi or excursion vehicle for the waterfalls and agree the return collection point before setting off. The tourism board describes Dunn's River Falls as approximately five minutes' drive from the cruise port, but does not identify the berth: treat that as a broad indication of proximity, not a guaranteed journey time from your gangway.
For an independent outing, distinguish a private charter taxi from a shared route taxi. The latter follows a fixed route and carries other passengers; it is not a private sightseeing vehicle. Make the price, currency, stops and waiting time explicit when booking a charter.
Things to Do
Dunn's River Falls and Park: the water climb is the active choice. Wear suitable gripping footwear and follow the guides' instructions rather than carrying loose belongings into the cascade. The park also has a beach, gardens and viewing areas, so members of the same party need not all undertake the climb. Its visitor guide lists lockers, changing rooms and toilets; arrange a meeting point before splitting up. Official park visitor guide.
Island Village: this open-air complex combines shops and places to eat with gardens, water features and a boardwalk. It is useful for a shorter outing or as the final stop after an excursion. Allow time to browse on your own terms; the setting is a managed visitor complex rather than a substitute for the whole town.
Konoko and the hills: the tourism board identifies Konoko Falls as another waterfall outing above town. This is an alternative focus for the day, particularly if your tour includes gardens, rather than an essential addition after Dunn's River. Compare the walking and climbing involved before choosing between them.
Getting back to your ship
Return to the named pier, not just the Ocho Rios waterfront. After a waterfall outing, changing, finding the group and reaching the pickup point all take time before the drive begins. Keep the final shopping stop near your confirmed return route and follow the ship's all-aboard deadline. If the cruise line changes the berth, update an independent driver before going ashore.
Practical Information
For a water activity, bring a towel and something dry for the return vehicle. Dunn's River describes partial wheelchair access within the park and a viewing deck; this does not extend to climbing the waterfall. Tell the operator what assistance you need and establish the route you will actually take. These attraction facilities do not describe the ship's gangway.
Carry the ship card and the identification requested by your cruise line. Keep a written record of the driver's contact details and agree whether the collection is at the park entrance or a designated vehicle area.
