The authority identifies Ken Wright as a cruise-ship berth, and the tourism board describes small and premium ships calling here. Expect to disembark alongside. The authority separately permits ships' own tenders to land at the marina by prior permission; that is an alternative arrangement, not the normal arrival assumed in this guide.
Follow the passenger route from the pier through the marina area. Before leaving, record the ship's all-aboard time and return entrance. If assistance is needed, arrange it with the ship: the town's proximity does not establish a step-free route from the gangway.
About this port
Port Antonio is a smaller cruise call on Jamaica's north-east coast, with a useful distinction between time in town and an outing into Portland's coastal or river scenery. The marina and town make a manageable focus for a short visit. Frenchman's Cove offers a beach day with facilities, while Rio Grande rafting needs a larger commitment of time and a planned return vehicle.
Ken Wright Pier is the cruise berth beside Errol Flynn Marina. These names refer to connected parts of the same arrival area, not two different cruise destinations. This guide covers an ocean-cruise call at that pier, rather than private-yacht clearance or a stay at a resort elsewhere along the coast.
Getting Around
A town visit keeps transport simple. The tourism board describes a 2.5 km heritage walking tour, encompassing nine sites between Musgrave Market and Folly Point Lighthouse. That is the tour's extent, not a berth-to-centre distance; you can choose a shorter visit rather than completing the whole route.
For the beach or river, book a return taxi or a ship excursion before committing to the outing. Give the driver Ken Wright Pier as the return destination and agree whether waiting is included. Private charter vehicles and shared route taxis are different services; a shared ride does not reserve a vehicle for your return.
Things to Do
Town and harbour: Musgrave Market provides a focus for a local outing, with historic buildings forming part of the tourism board's town route. Keep the visit flexible, with time for browsing and something to eat. This is the easiest choice when you want to stay close to the arrival area rather than spend the day in a vehicle.
Frenchman's Cove: the attraction is the meeting of river and sea in a sheltered-looking, wooded cove, with a beach bar, toilets and rinse facilities. The operator's adult day pass costs J$2,500 by card or J$2,750 in cash. Entry is subject to availability; food and drink brought from outside are not allowed. Transport is additional. Beach rules and prices checked 2026-10-02. Arrange the return pickup at the entrance before heading down to the beach.
Rio Grande rafting: choose this as the main activity, with a raft captain guiding the river trip. SeaDream lists a four-hour excursion from Port Antonio, a useful indication of the commitment for an organised outing rather than just time on the water. Its availability depends on the voyage and participation. An independent booking needs to include both the outward journey and collection after rafting. SeaDream excursion, checked 2026-10-02.
Getting back to your ship
The main vulnerability is the return from an out-of-town activity. For rafting, agree the finishing-point collection rather than assuming the driver will wait where you first boarded. For a beach day, set a pickup time at Frenchman's Cove's entrance that leaves room for the road journey and port access. Return to Ken Wright Pier beside Errol Flynn Marina and use your ship's all-aboard time, not the attraction's closing time.
Practical Information
Pack swimwear and a towel for Frenchman's Cove, plus a dry bag for your ship card and other essentials. Its day-pass rules exclude re-entry, so take what you need on your first visit. Keep enough time and money for food on site if staying over lunch.
For rafting, ask the operator about boarding the raft and the day's river conditions before paying. A seated ride can still require assistance getting aboard. Carry water and sun protection for the town route, and shorten it if heat or fatigue makes the full heritage circuit unappealing.
