Orientation, not a walking route

Cruise ships dock at the Santa Catalina cruise quays. The terminal operator identifies several berthing faces within this area, so the distance from the gangway to the exit varies. Follow the port's passenger route towards Parque Santa Catalina before starting a city walk.
The municipal tourism service places the cruise exit in the Santa Catalina neighbourhood, with transport options nearby. For the nearby shops and restaurants around Parque Santa Catalina, the cruise-port operator describes a walk of about 10–15 minutes from the pier; Vegueta is the separate, longer journey described above.
The operator describes its terminal as wheelchair accessible. Arrange any assistance needed on your ship's gangway before going ashore.
About this port
Las Palmas offers two different city outings: the Santa Catalina and Las Canteras area near the cruise port, or the historic Vegueta district further across the city. Choose between them first. A port described as central does not put every part of Las Palmas beside the gangway.
For a short call, the port neighbourhood and a beach promenade are the more flexible choice. With a longer window, use a bus or taxi for Vegueta and leave time to return through the terminal.
Getting Around
Bus to Vegueta: after leaving the cruise terminal for Parque Santa Catalina, use the park's stop 26 for Guaguas Municipales route 12 towards Hoya de la Plata. Leave at Mercado de Vegueta, stop 895. The stop number identifies where to board; the bus number is 12.
Bus back to the port area: route 12 towards Puerto serves Rafael Cabrera (Teatro), stop 523, then Intercambiador Santa Catalina, stop 20. This return stop is at the interchange in Plaza de Canarias, separate from the outbound Parque Santa Catalina stop. Leave time to walk from the interchange back through the cruise terminal. Use the operator's route map and service notices for the day of your visit; these stop details were checked on 2026-10-08.
To the southern resorts: GLOBAL is the interurban operator. Its route 30 links Las Palmas with Playa del Inglés and Faro de Maspalomas. Some departures start at Santa Catalina and others at San Telmo, so check the journey's starting point as well as its route number. This is a substantially larger transport commitment than staying in Las Palmas.
For a short call, a taxi can simplify a trip to Vegueta, while staying around Santa Catalina avoids the cross-city return altogether.
Things to Do
- Las Canteras promenade: choose a section of the urban beachfront for a walk and a meal. The regional tourism board identifies cafés, restaurants and beach facilities along the promenade. You need not walk its full length to make a worthwhile outing.
- Vegueta and Casa de Colón: make the museum and its surrounding historic district the focus of a city excursion. Casa de Colón has permanent galleries in Vegueta; check its official visitor information before travelling specifically for admission.
- A southern beach excursion: Playa del Inglés or Maspalomas is an alternative for a longer call with transport already planned. It adds an interurban return journey; avoid combining it with a museum visit across Las Palmas unless the actual available time supports both.
Getting back to your ship
Return planning: identify the last useful bus, rather than the last bus of the day. Include the walk from the stop, terminal security and the ship's all-aboard margin.
Practical Information
- Money: euro (€).
- Emergencies: call 112 free of charge; the Canary Islands service offers multilingual assistance.
- Beach plans: follow the flags and instructions at the beach. A promenade visit remains an option when you decide not to swim.
- Return planning: identify the last useful bus, rather than the last bus of the day. Include the walk from the stop, terminal security and the ship's all-aboard margin.
