Arrival & Getting Ashore
Getting to the centre: From the Terminal de Cruceros de Tenerife or Muelle Sur, head through the designated port exit towards Plaza de España.
- Walk: realistic along the marked passenger routes for those comfortable with the harbour walk; Muelle Sur adds a quay approach, and its green pedestrian bridge excludes passengers with reduced mobility.
- Public transport: for an onward La Laguna visit, Metro Tenerife tram 1 runs from Intercambiador to Trinidad in about 40 minutes; a single ticket bought at a tram-stop machine costs €1.35 one way, or €1.10 one way through Ten+ móvil.

Cruise ships dock alongside. Muelle Sur and the Terminal de Cruceros de Tenerife have different pedestrian approaches in the port authority's published protocol.
- From Muelle Sur: the document allows access towards the city via the green pedestrian bridge or the Edificio Puerto-Ciudad. It explicitly prohibits use of the green bridge by passengers with reduced mobility.
- From the cruise terminal: the authority identifies the Edificio Puerto-Ciudad as the nearest city access.
- Internal shuttles: the protocol places their meeting point between the Puerto-Ciudad building and the cruise passenger terminal. This is a port transfer point, separate from the tram stop.
Follow the marked passenger route and port staff's directions.
About this port
At Santa Cruz de Tenerife, decide first how to get out of the port, then whether to stay in the city or take the tram to La Laguna. A berth near the waterfront can still involve a substantial walk inside the harbour. Teide is a separate inland excursion and should have its own return plan.
Getting Around
City visit: after leaving the port, use Plaza de España as an orientation point for the centre. Choose one museum or park rather than starting several visits with separate admission times.
La Laguna: Metro Tenerife's line 1 connects Intercambiador in Santa Cruz with Trinidad in La Laguna, about 40 minutes for the full route. A single ticket costs €1.35 one way from the tram-stop machines, or €1.10 one way through Ten+ móvil (checked 2026-09-08). Use the operator's stop map to choose where to board after leaving the port. The tram journey is only part of the outing: allow for walking to a stop, waiting and the same stages on return.
Teide: book an excursion or arrange transport around the actual call window. Avoid combining the national park with La Laguna unless your transport organiser has allowed for both and the return to the assigned berth.
Things to Do
- MUNA: the Museo de Naturaleza y Arqueología brings together natural-history and archaeological collections in central Santa Cruz. Use the museum's current visitor page for admission and accessibility details; older maps may call it Museo de la Naturaleza y el Hombre.
- Parque García Sanabria: a city walk among planted gardens and outdoor sculpture is a flexible alternative to a museum booking.
- La Laguna: its historic town was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1999. Make this a focused urban excursion by tram, allowing time to walk from Trinidad into the historic streets.
- Teide National Park: inscribed by UNESCO in 2007 for its volcanic landscape. A landscape excursion does not automatically include a cable-car journey or summit access; check exactly what a proposed tour covers.
Getting back to your ship
Teide: book an excursion or arrange transport around the actual call window. Avoid combining the national park with La Laguna unless your transport organiser has allowed for both and the return to the assigned berth.
Practical Information
- Money: euro (€).
- Emergencies: 112, free of charge, with multilingual assistance in the Canary Islands.
- Port access: carry the identification and boarding documents specified by the ship; the port protocol allows identity checks within the restricted area.
- Mobility: the green-bridge restriction makes the exit arrangement a question to settle before disembarking. Confirm assistance for the complete route, including any shuttle boarding.
