Orientation, not a walking route

Cruise ships dock at Nyborg's commercial port. ADP's cruise operations sheet gives approximately 2 km from the cruise quay to the centre and states that there is no passenger terminal. That is a general city-centre distance; the castle driving time above is ADP’s separate landmark-specific estimate.
Use the marked, guarded passenger exit and the VisitNyborg town shuttle. The operational quay is not the same thing as Kongens Skibsbro, the historic harbour point where the museum's town route begins. Use the actual cruise berth for pickup and return instructions.
About this port
Nyborg offers a walk through a former royal town, but the castle interior is not currently a visitor option. Nyborg Castle remains closed for restoration, according to the museum’s website checked on 2026-09-08. Plan around the town's historic route and Borgmestergården museum instead of travelling here expecting to tour the castle rooms.
Getting Around
The museum describes a walking route called Rigets Hovedstrøg: from Kongens Skibsbro it follows Adelgade, passes Vor Frue Church and continues through Kongegade towards Borgmestergården and the castle area. Begin this walk after completing the port-to-town transfer.
Keep to public paths and follow closures around the castle works. Choose the route and one museum visit for a short call, rather than adding another town. The town shuttle saves the port approach for passengers concentrating their walking time in the historic centre.
Things to Do
- Borgmestergården: a museum in a historic merchant's house, with a courtyard and exhibitions. It is the useful indoor alternative while the castle is closed; check its own visitor arrangements.
- Rigets Hovedstrøg: follow the museum's route through the centre, using the historic harbour, church and streets to understand how the town related to the crossing of the Great Belt.
- Castle surroundings: view only from public areas permitted around the works. The castle is part of the town's royal history, but check the barriers before choosing an approach to the building.
Getting back to your ship
Note the shuttle’s return pickup point before entering a museum. Do not assume the castle's proposed reopening is a confirmed date: the museum currently gives 2028 as a project target, checked 2026-09-08, subject to change.
