The port operator identifies the east bank as the dedicated cruise terminal and the west bank as primarily serving sugar and molasses exports. Its broader information describes services at two quays. Follow the berth named in your ship’s instructions; this guide’s mapped point is the east cruise quay, not a universal pickup point for both banks.

The terminal has shops, restaurants and passenger services. On leaving the ship, follow the passenger route to your excursion or agreed ground transport. Gangway assistance is a matter for the ship, and a vehicle booking should specify any mobility equipment before arrival.

For embarkation or disembarkation, La Romana International Airport is the nearby airport. Its operator gives approximately 15 minutes between airport and cruise port (checked 2026-10-02). That is a transfer estimate, excluding baggage collection, formalities and cruise check-in. Arrange the connection around your boarding appointment or flight requirements.

About this port

La Romana’s cruise port stands where the Río Romana reaches the Caribbean. Ships arrive alongside, and the port handles both visiting passengers and people beginning or ending a cruise. Its river setting does not make this a river-cruise stop: the operator identifies major ocean-cruise lines among its customers.

Casa de Campo–La Romana International Tourist Port is another name for this port. The Casa de Campo yacht marina is a different facility. NCL also markets La Romana under “Punta Cana (La Romana)”, distinct from its Punta Cana (Cap Cana) offshore call. Give drivers your ship and cruise-terminal details rather than simply asking for the marina or Punta Cana.

Getting Around

Use a taxi or a booked excursion for Altos de Chavón, Casa de Campo or Bayahíbe. The port offers ground-transfer services, and Carnival documents taxi departures from La Romana for Altos de Chavón. Set the destination, entrance arrangements and return collection before starting out.

La Romana town, the resort and its yacht marina are separate destinations. A booking for Casa de Campo needs a specific endpoint, such as Altos de Chavón, rather than just the resort entrance. For a short call, select one main outing; adding an island boat trip introduces a further connection beyond the road transfer.

Things to Do

Altos de Chavón: this deliberately built Mediterranean-style village overlooks the Chavón River within Casa de Campo. It is a cultural attraction rather than a surviving colonial settlement. The church, amphitheatre and Regional Archaeological Museum, with its Taíno material, offer a coherent alternative to a beach day. Arrange visitor access as part of your transport or excursion.

Bayahíbe: the fishing village offers seafood restaurants, craft shops and a coastal setting. It is also a departure area for island outings. Choose between time in the village and a longer excursion; the boat portion changes both the timetable and how you get back.

Isla Catalina: a boat excursion can provide beaches, snorkelling or diving. Distinguish a trip from La Romana from an itinerary that actually calls at Catalina: the latter uses its own island landing arrangements. A La Romana passenger must return to the mainland and the correct cruise quay.

Getting back to your ship

Agree a return pickup at the attraction itself, with the correct cruise terminal as the destination. Allow for road traffic and port entry; an island excursion also needs time for the boat-to-road connection. Use the ship’s all-aboard time, not its advertised sailing time, to set your deadline. Embarking passengers should follow their check-in instructions instead of treating this as a normal day ashore.

Practical Information

Take your cruise card and the identification specified by the ship. The port uses controlled entry and identity checks, so keep the ship’s name and terminal details available for the return journey.

Pack comfortable footwear for sightseeing, and swimwear, a towel and sun protection for beach trips. Establish which admissions, food and transport legs are included in a package before paying. If you need an adapted vehicle, describe the equipment and boarding assistance required rather than relying on a general accessibility label.
