Arrival & Getting Ashore

NCL explicitly identifies Punta Cana (Cap Cana) as an offshore anchorage call. Plan to transfer ashore by tender, with Marina Cap Cana as the arrival area. The national tourism board identifies the marina as Punta Cana’s cruise destination, and the marina’s owner documents ocean-cruise visits.

Use the ship’s instructions for your tender group, landing point and final boat back. Do not arrange a driver against the advertised ship-arrival time: being at anchor and being ready at the marina are different stages of the journey. Save the meeting instructions before leaving the ship.

If you use a wheelchair or need help with steps, discuss the specific tender arrangements with your cruise line before booking an activity. A sheltered yacht marina does not remove the transfer between the ocean ship and the smaller boat.

About this port

A Punta Cana call through Cap Cana is a visit to the Dominican Republic’s eastern resort coast, with offshore arrival rather than a big cruise terminal in a town centre. The marina, beaches and attractions within Cap Cana offer more manageable choices for a short visit than trying to cover the whole Punta Cana region.

Read the full port name on your booking. NCL lists Punta Cana (Cap Cana) separately from Punta Cana (La Romana). This guide covers Cap Cana; La Romana uses a different cruise port and road network. A holiday advertised with flights into Punta Cana does not establish where the ship is berthed.

Getting Around

Cap Cana is a spread-out resort development, so choose an exact attraction or beach venue rather than asking for “the centre”. The marina’s arrival guide lists taxi and car-hire services and directs visitors to its concierge for assistance. Arrange outward and return transport together, identifying the marina meeting point your ship is using.

For a beach visit, settle venue access and the return collection before leaving. A resort booking or beach package may have its own conditions; do not assume that transport or facilities are included simply because the beach is in Cap Cana.

Keep the day geographically focused. Scape Park and a beach are different experiences, each deserving time of its own. Hotel-based excursion pickup information is not automatically a marina pickup arrangement.

Things to Do

Scape Park and Hoyo Azul: the park’s Blue Hole cenote lies beneath a limestone cliff, reached by a trail and bridges. Admission covers the cenote along with other park attractions. The operator recommends at least six hours to explore the park fully (checked 2026-10-02), making a complete park day unsuitable for some short calls. Choose an excursion or admission plan that fits the actual shore window.

Juanillo Beach: Cap Cana’s destination information identifies this as a beach outing with places to eat nearby. Arrange your chosen venue and road transfer in advance, especially if you want loungers or a meal. It is a better choice for an unhurried beach day than trying to add distant sightseeing afterwards.

Stay around the marina: restaurants and boutiques provide a gentler alternative to an attraction-heavy excursion. This is particularly useful if tendering begins late or you would prefer to keep your return straightforward. Retain the precise tender meeting point rather than treating every marina dock as interchangeable.

Getting back to your ship

Return to the ship’s designated marina landing before its final tender time. Your plan needs to accommodate the road journey, finding the correct dock and any boarding queue. Tell your driver this boat deadline when setting the pickup, rather than using the ship’s later sailing time. Follow changes announced by the ship if sea conditions affect tender operations.

Practical Information

Spanish is the local language and the Dominican peso is the currency. Agree the currency of private transport quotations and what they include. The marina advises bottled or treated drinking water.

Bring sun protection and a towel for a beach or park outing. At Hoyo Azul, the park requires lifejackets for swimming and recommends water shoes for rocks and stairs. Keep documents and electronics protected from water, with your cruise card readily accessible for tender boarding.
