Arrival & Getting Ashore

Getting to the centre: Acapulco cruise terminal to the Zócalo area.

  • Shuttle: the terminal operator explicitly lists no shuttle service. Global Ports Holding port facts, checked 2026-10-02.
  • Taxi: official port documentation provides for taxis and excursion vehicles serving cruise passengers. Arrange your destination and return with a recognised provider at the terminal. Official port programme.

Ships berth alongside at the existing cruise facility. Follow the passenger exit and collection instructions given for your call. The operator lists the city centre as 500 m away, but does not define the measurement's endpoints; use it as an indication of the central setting, not a precise walking route to the Zócalo.

The terminal is undergoing development. Global Ports Holding describes an additional pier scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027. That is a future facility, not the arrival arrangement assumed in this guide. Use the ship's current briefing for any temporary routes through the port.

About this port

Acapulco's cruise arrival is in the historic part of the bay, with the Fuerte de San Diego, Zócalo and La Quebrada among the main cultural choices. This is an operating ocean-cruise port: the port authority records a Norwegian Encore call in 2026, and Global Ports Holding now operates the cruise facility.

Security advice materially affects planning here. As checked on 2026-10-02, the UK FCDO advises against all but essential travel to Guerrero, including Acapulco; its limited exception elsewhere in the state does not cover this city. Read the current regional advice and your cruise line's instructions before deciding whether to go ashore. An operating cruise call does not remove that advice.

Getting Around

If going ashore, a focused arranged outing makes the vehicle, stops and return meeting place clear. The port's institutional programme identifies bus and taxi transport among terminal services. Agree the complete price, currency, waiting time and return endpoint before leaving, rather than arranging only the outward ride.

Keep the historic-bay sights separate from an extended beach or lagoon itinerary. Choose the place you most want to see and allow enough time to enjoy it. A short geographic distance is not, by itself, a reason to disregard current security instructions or assume independent walking is appropriate.

Things to Do

Fuerte de San Diego. The historical museum provides a way to understand Acapulco's maritime role. INAH describes exhibits on navigation, fortifications and the trade with Asia, including Chinese ceramics and a large ship model. It is a useful cultural focus for a visit rather than simply a viewpoint over the port. Consult the museum's visitor page for current opening arrangements.

Zócalo and cathedral. The central square and Cathedral of Our Lady of Solitude are listed by the port operator among the historic area's sights. Include them in a short guided circuit if the day's shore arrangements permit. Decide on a precise collection point before leaving the vehicle, especially if you want time to sit or eat.

La Quebrada. The cliff divers provide a different experience from the museum and square. Arrange an outing that specifies the performance and viewing location; arriving at the cliffs does not establish that a show will fit your remaining time. Acapulco's municipality continues to identify this area as part of its historic tourism corridor, but that is not a guarantee about security or performance times.

Getting back to your ship

Give the driver the cruise terminal and ship name, and follow the day's designated passenger entrance. Leave time for the road journey, any temporary port routing and security checks before reaching the gangway. If an outing changes or runs late, contact the ship's published shore contact promptly; do not assume departure will be delayed. Keep all collection times aligned with the onboard clock.

Practical Information

Take water, sun protection and comfortable shoes for the stops included in your outing. Carry the ship card and identification requested aboard, and keep valuables discreet. Save the port-agent contact provided by your cruise line before leaving.

For mobility needs, ask about the actual gangway, vehicle boarding and entrances to each attraction. Do not assume that a short transfer or a central terminal makes a whole itinerary step-free. Settle any assistance requirements before booking.
