Arrival & Getting Ashore

Getting to the centre: Santa Cruz cruise terminal to central La Crucecita.

  • Taxi: use the designated vehicle area near the terminal welcome area and ask for La Crucecita. Oaxaca tourism identifies the orange Santa Cruz taxis as serving the connection between La Crucecita and Santa Cruz beach.

Ocean cruise ships normally berth alongside at Santa Cruz. The municipal government's January 2026 account of Island Princess arriving at the Santa Cruz dock corroborates the cruise operator's terminal description. Follow the passenger route off the pier to the welcome and transport area.

Keep beach and town plans separate: arriving at the waterfront does not mean you are already in La Crucecita. If you need assistance, discuss the actual ship's gangway and vehicle boarding with the cruise line; broad descriptions of an accessible destination do not settle those individual transfers.

About this port

Huatulco is a collection of bays and communities on the Oaxaca coast, with cruise arrivals at Santa Cruz. That gives you a coastal starting point rather than an inland town square. Stay around Santa Cruz for the beach, travel to La Crucecita for shops and local food, or take a boat excursion to see more of the coastline.

The names are worth sorting out before hiring transport. Santa Cruz is the cruise-port area; La Crucecita is the nearby commercial town; Santa María Huatulco is a separate inland destination. Tell a driver which one you mean, particularly when arranging the return.

Getting Around

A taxi makes the town connection straightforward, especially if your plan includes shopping before returning to the coast. Specify Santa Cruz's cruise terminal for the return and agree the fare and currency before departure. Arrange collection at a named place if continuing to another bay.

Things to Do

Santa Cruz beach. This is the most natural base for a coastal day around the arrival bay. Oaxaca tourism describes beach activities, snorkelling and boat-related recreation here. Choose the activity for your ability and the day's conditions; staying by the beach can be enjoyable without booking a water sport.

La Crucecita. Go inland for a change of scene, browsing and Oaxacan food. Browse the Mercado 3 de Mayo and the surrounding town-centre shops. This is a useful pairing with Santa Cruz when you would like some town time without making a long countryside excursion. Huatulco municipal information.

A bays cruise. Princess offers coastal catamaran excursions, including itineraries with a swim stop. Compare whether a trip is primarily sightseeing or includes getting into the water; those are different experiences. Choose a departure that returns to Santa Cruz within your call rather than assuming any local boat timetable will fit.

Getting back to your ship

Return to the cruise pier at Santa Cruz, not merely to a Huatulco town-centre stop. A bays excursion adds a sea journey; an inland outing adds a road connection. Leave enough room in your plan to finish either connection, pass the port entrance and walk to the gangway before the ship's all-aboard time. Keep the final beach or café stop in the arrival bay if time is becoming short.

Practical Information

Bring water, a hat and sun protection, plus shoes suitable for both town pavements and the pier. For a boat excursion, secure anything that could blow away and bring dry clothing if swimming is included.
