Arrival & Getting Ashore
Getting to the centre: Loreto's Malecón tender landing to the central plaza and mission area.
- Walk: the town centre is a short walk from the waterfront landing, making a town visit practical on foot. Princess describes it as a few minutes; the precise time depends on the landing used. Princess arrival guidance.
Ships anchor offshore and bring passengers to the Malecón by tender. Follow your cruise line's ticketing or boarding procedure and keep private excursion arrangements flexible enough for the disembarkation process. A booked activity's start time should refer to when you can actually be ashore, not simply the ship's published arrival.
Tender boarding is a transfer between vessels and shore infrastructure. Passengers needing assistance should discuss their particular mobility equipment and the day's boarding arrangements with the cruise line before committing to an independent trip.
About this port
Loreto is a small-town call on the Gulf of California side of Baja California Sur. Its waterfront, central plaza and mission suit an unhurried visit ashore, while the surrounding marine national park offers a more ambitious day by boat. These are different plans: a second boat trip adds another weather-dependent journey to a call that already requires tendering.
This guide concerns the cruise tender arrival at Loreto itself. Do not substitute a meeting point at Puerto Escondido when booking a private outing; use the landing named in your ship's instructions.
Getting Around
For the central plaza, mission and museum, walking keeps the day simple. Begin with the attraction that matters most to you, then leave the remaining time for the waterfront and a meal. Saving the return-landing location on your phone is more useful than relying on a generic pin for Loreto.
San Javier is an inland excursion offered by Princess, with transport into the mountain landscape. Book a round trip whose meeting point and return time fit the tender operation. An island or kayaking excursion is another distinct choice; establish where it departs and whether the quoted duration includes all transfers.
Things to Do
Mission and town centre. Make the Misión Nuestra Señora de Loreto and the plaza the focus of a short visit. Princess offers a walking excursion through this area, but its proximity to the waterfront also suits independent exploration. Respect worshippers if entering the church, and keep beachwear for a beach outing.
Museo de las Misiones. The INAH museum at Salvatierra 16 adds historical context to the mission visit. Its published foreign-visitor admission is MXN 145 per person, checked 2026-10-02, subject to change. The visitor page lists Tuesday–Saturday opening; use its current details when arranging your day rather than assuming it opens on every cruise call. INAH visitor information.
Bahía de Loreto National Park. A guided boat or kayaking outing introduces the marine side of the destination. CONANP lists a standard park charge of MXN 225 per person per day, checked 2026-10-02, with eligible concessions. Establish whether the operator includes the park fee and conservation wristband in the booking. Follow the guide's wildlife and landing instructions; the water excursion should be the day's main commitment. CONANP park guide.
Getting back to your ship
Return to the landing designated by your ship and work to the last tender time, which may precede all-aboard. Leave room for a queue and the crossing. With a separate boat excursion, plan backwards through both journeys: first back to Loreto, then onto the ship's tender. Follow announcements if wind or sea conditions change the operation.
Practical Information
Carry water, sun protection and footwear suitable for the outing you have chosen. Use a secure bag for belongings on the tender and other small boats. CONANP lists banks, cash machines, pharmacies and shops in Loreto, but avoid spending the first part of a timed excursion looking for supplies.
Have pesos available for admission and small purchases. For a boat trip, ask about shade, boarding steps, lifejackets and the return landing before paying. A short town walk does not establish that the tender itself is accessible.
