Ships dock alongside at the Dale R. and Carol Ann Lindsey Alaska Railroad Terminal, the replacement cruise terminal opened in 2026. You step ashore from the ship without a tender journey. Follow the ship's directions through the terminal to your transport, and keep its return instructions with you.
The public railway depot, small-boat harbour and downtown SeaLife Center are separate destinations. Give a driver the place you want, especially when you're returning to the cruise terminal.
About this port
Seward sits on Resurrection Bay, with a small-boat harbour to explore and an aquarium downtown. You can build a day around either, or combine them if your call allows. Many passengers also start or finish their Alaska cruise here. A day ashore needs a return to the ship. If you're flying through Anchorage before or after your cruise, arrange that longer transfer separately.
Getting Around
A taxi lets you choose between the harbour and downtown without building the day around a seasonal bus. Before leaving the terminal, arrange where and when you'll meet your driver for the return from your chosen outing.
Seward City Tours' published free summer shuttle season ended on 14 September 2026. For a later visit, arrange a taxi unless the operator advertises a shuttle for your dates. Use its service notice when planning both journeys.
Things to Do
- Alaska SeaLife Center and downtown: the aquarium combines marine research and wildlife rehabilitation with exhibits of animals including puffins and sea lions. It's on the bay at the end of the Seward Highway. Choose your admission time around the journey from the ship, then leave room to browse Seward's shops before your return pickup. Book admission through the centre once tickets for your dates are available.
- Small-boat harbour and Kenai Fjords visitor centre: ask your taxi driver for the harbour visitor centre at 1212 Fourth Avenue. Its exhibits and rangers introduce the national park. The usual opening season runs from late May's Memorial Day weekend to early September's Labor Day, so early and late cruise calls can fall outside it. Look around the harbour, and agree a pickup there for the ride back. The harbour visitor centre and inland Exit Glacier Nature Center are different places.
Getting back to your ship
Getting back: return to the pickup you agreed at the SeaLife Center, downtown or small-boat harbour. Ask for the cruise terminal and name your ship. From the terminal drop-off, follow the ship's entry directions through any checks and back to the gangway. Count back from its all-aboard time, allowing for the taxi journey and boarding process. Reaching the railway depot or harbour still leaves the terminal journey to complete.
Practical Information
Starting or finishing your cruise: arrange Anchorage transport in advance. Allow separately for leaving the ship, collecting luggage, the transfer and airport check-in. Keep the meeting point and baggage instructions supplied with your cruise-booked train or coach.
For independently booked rail travel, the public Seward depot is at 408 Port Avenue. The published Coastal Classic timetable for 14 May–12 September 2027, checked 5 November 2026, leaves Anchorage at 06:45 and reaches Seward at 11:20. Northbound, it leaves Seward at 18:00 and reaches Anchorage at 22:15. Match the railway timetable to your booking, including the onward journey from Anchorage station.
Bags and admission: the SeaLife Center has no luggage check. Arrange storage before visiting with cruise luggage. Advance admission also avoids arriving to find your preferred entry time unavailable.
