At Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal, ships dock alongside. Reserve a time to enter the downtown shuttle queue through the terminal's booking system. Your reservation controls when you join the queue. Standby passengers board after reserved passengers, as space allows.

For tender arrivals, Crescent Harbor is beside Harrigan Centennial Hall. O'Connell Bridge Dock is about five minutes' walk from the hall. Both bring you into downtown, where you can start exploring on foot. Keep the name of your own landing for the return.

Small expedition ships also use Petro Marine Dock and Gary Paxton Industrial Park, typically with private transport arranged by the cruise. Follow your ship's pickup and return instructions for these calls.

About this port

Sitka gives you a choice between a short museum visit and a longer walk through rainforest to Tlingit and Haida totem poles. Both start from the downtown waterfront. How you reach it shapes the day: most major cruise lines use Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal outside town, while some ships anchor and bring you downtown by tender. Know which arrival you have before planning your time ashore.

Getting Around

Use the hall as your downtown landmark. The museum is inside, and shops and restaurants are a short walk away. For Sitka National Historical Park, head east along the waterfront on Lincoln Street towards the park visitor centre. Keep this approach in mind for the walk back to the hall or your tender landing.

If you've booked a tour, read its meeting instructions before joining the shuttle queue. Some operators collect at the cruise terminal, while others meet downtown.

Things to Do

  • Sitka History Museum: the displays, photographs and objects cover Tlingit, Russian and American history. Its home in Harrigan Centennial Hall makes this a useful short outing, with the return shuttle pickup close by. Add a waterfront wander if time allows, then come back to the hall.
  • Totem Trail at Sitka National Historical Park: follow Lincoln Street to the visitor centre, where the one-mile loop begins. Tlingit and Haida poles stand among temperate rainforest, and the route passes the site of the 1804 battle between Russians and Tlingit. NPS suggests 30–90 minutes for the trail itself. Add the walk from downtown and back separately. Finish the loop at the visitor centre and retrace Lincoln Street west towards the hall.

Getting back to your ship

Getting back: return to Harrigan Centennial Hall, 330 Harbor Drive, for the shuttle to Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal. Under the operator's guidance checked on 3 November 2026, the last shuttle leaves downtown 30 minutes before your ship's all-aboard time. Reach the queue earlier, allowing for waiting, the drive and boarding your ship.

A return reservation may be required on busy days. Use the terminal's shuttle booking page for your call date to see whether you need one. Once back at the terminal, follow your ship's boarding directions to its gangway and complete boarding by all-aboard.

If you arrived by tender, walk back to your assigned Crescent Harbor or O'Connell Bridge landing and take your ship's tender back. Follow its final-tender instructions and allow for the queue. The cruise-terminal shuttle serves ships docked outside town.

Practical Information

Bring a waterproof jacket, layers and comfortable walking shoes. For the Totem Trail, read the bear-alert signs at the trailheads before setting off. The trail is relatively flat and surfaced with crushed gravel.

Accessible shuttles are available. If you need assistance getting ashore, discuss your ship's gangway or tender arrangements with the cruise line before the call.
