Orientation, not a walking route

Passenger Terminal Amsterdam, operated for cruises as Cruise Port Amsterdam, is at Piet Heinkade 27. Ships berth alongside the terminal's IJ quay. The terminal operator describes the walk from Centraal as approximately 15 minutes; allow more with luggage or limited mobility. Between the station and terminal, the route follows the IJ side of the station and crosses a bridge. This is a walk to the station, not a promise that every central attraction is that close.
Tram 26 connects the station with the terminal area at Muziekgebouw/Bimhuis. On the return from Centraal, take the tram towards IJburg and get off at that first stop. A taxi may be preferable with luggage.
These directions apply to Piet Heinkade. If your cruise documents name IJmuiden or another berth, obtain that berth's pickup and return instructions. Follow the ship's advice on identification and its all-aboard time.
About this port
For a call at Passenger Terminal Amsterdam, the useful starting point is Amsterdam Centraal station: it connects the IJ waterfront with the city centre and public transport. A canal walk or one booked museum makes a manageable independent visit. Confirm the terminal before booking anything ashore: Felison Cruise Terminal in IJmuiden is a separate coastal arrival point serving the Amsterdam region, with a different transfer to the city.
Getting Around
Choose the part of Amsterdam you want to explore before buying a transport pass. Walking avoids transfers for a canal-focused visit; a museum visit farther into the city may justify public transport. Allow for the trip back to the terminal as well as the time inside an attraction.
GVB accepts compatible contactless debit or credit cards and mobile wallets through OVpay. Check in and out with the same physical card or the same device: a phone and the bank card stored on it count as different payment methods. GVB also sells tickets, including paper chip cards and app tickets; a contactless bank card is not compulsory. GVB-only tickets do not cover NS trains or other operators such as Connexxion. Consult GVB's payment guidance before choosing a ticket.
Things to Do
- A flexible canal walk: explore part of the seventeenth-century canal ring and turn back when your return allowance begins. UNESCO's inscription covers the canal ring area inside the Singelgracht, inscribed in 2010. This is an option you can shorten if disembarkation is delayed.
- Rijksmuseum: make this the main visit if Dutch art is your priority. Reserve a start time through the museum and plan the terminal transfer around it. Leave other ticketed attractions for another visit if the call is short.
- Anne Frank House: book an entry time on the museum's own website before building your day around it. The museum sells its tickets only through that site; an outside walking tour does not include admission to the house. Without an entry ticket, choose a different plan rather than allowing time for a walk-up queue.
These are alternative plans for a short call. Any timed booking should leave room for disembarkation and travel delays at the start, and the ship's return deadline at the end.

Practical Information
- Currency: euro (€).
- Emergencies: call 112 for urgent police, fire or ambulance assistance.
- Tickets and opening: check the individual museum's visitor page for opening dates, entry conditions and prices.
- Access needs: confirm your ship's gangway arrangements and the terminal-to-transport route before choosing an independent outing. Being alongside does not establish that the entire route is step-free.
