The Netherlands has a North Sea coast and extensive waterways, connecting port areas with cities and inland destinations. A cruise itinerary may highlight a city while the ship uses a terminal elsewhere, so establish the arrival location before choosing transport. Plan from that terminal, rather than from the city name alone, when comparing the journey each way. Decide whether a visit close to the port or a longer transfer makes better use of your time. For independent travel, check current connections and plan the return as carefully as the outward leg, including the final approach to the ship.

Getting into town

A bus or shuttle may cover only part of the way, or go somewhere else entirely, so check the guide for the route and what the ticket covers. Free shuttles come first. Fares are only put in order when the tickets are the same kind.
