Nordfjord Havn confirms a cruise quay at Olden and a separate tender landing at Olden Cruise Park. Its 2026 programme uses both the pier and tender facilities, so access remains mixed. The same authority also manages a tender landing at Loen near the Skylift, but Loen and Olden are different arrival places; use the location in your ship's daily programme.
Shops and activity desks beside the quay are separate from the village centre. Return to the landing named in your ship's programme; Olden quay and the tender landings are not interchangeable.
If tendering, allow time for the launch journey and return queue. A booked excursion should specify its meeting point in relation to your actual landing. Do not assume a trip leaving from the Olden quay also collects passengers arriving at Loen.
About this port
Olden is a starting point for the valleys and mountain scenery at the inner end of Nordfjord. The main choice for a short call is between a visit towards Briksdalsbreen, a separate outing to Loen Skylift, or a quieter day around the village and waterfront.
Choose one principal excursion. A coach journey, a glacier-valley walk and a cable-car visit each need more time than their headline descriptions suggest. Combining them without a substantial call and a confirmed transport plan can leave little room for weather, queues or the journey back to the ship.
Getting Around
Walking works for a modest village visit, while Briksdal and Loen require separate transport plans. Skyss's morning through service to Briksdalen is seasonal: the 10:05 departure from Olden cruise kai on Mondays–Saturdays is marked for 15 May–15 September 2026. That departure has finished for 2026. Use the Skyss journey planner for your travel date and return journey; the timetable also contains school-day and other restricted trips. Timetable checked 2026-10-10. Local excursion shuttles serve attractions rather than acting as a port-to-centre bus.
Check whether a ticket includes both transport and the attraction you want to visit. At Briksdal, arriving at the road end still leaves a walk towards the glacier view. At Loen, a bus stop is not necessarily the cable-car entrance: the Skylift operator places the public stop at Loen Active about 500 metres from the fjord station.
Things to Do
Briksdal valley and Briksdalsbreen. The glacier is an arm of Jostedalsbreen within the national park. The visitor operator gives about 2.5 km and 40–60 minutes on foot from Briksdalsbre Fjellstove to the glacier viewpoint, one way. Add the return walk and road transfers when planning your day. An alternative path allows a circuit. Route information checked 2026-10-10.
Troll cars cover part of the ascent. The operator gives about 1.5 hours for the return outing, including the stop at the top, with roughly 500 metres to walk from the vehicle terminus to the glacier lake. This starts in Briksdal and excludes transport from Olden. The season is May–October; advance booking is required in May and from 20 September (checked 2026-10-10). Follow local barriers; the visit is to the glacier landscape, not permission to walk onto the ice.
Loen Skylift. The cable car provides a mountain-view alternative to the Briksdal outing. Its fjord station is in Loen, so include the road transfer, queues and descent in your return plan. Low cloud can greatly change what you see at the top.
From 26 October to 20 December 2026, the published opening schedule lists Thursday–Sunday only, with a 14:30 start on Thursdays. Match the opening day and time to your call before arranging the transfer. Hours checked 2026-10-10, subject to change.
Olden and the nearby countryside. A slower visit can focus on the village, water and valley setting. Locally guided cycling is another option described by the regional tourism board, provided the activity fits your ability and return time. Keep to the agreed route and be mindful of traffic where roads carry both excursions and everyday local journeys.
