Arrival & Getting Ashore

Getting to the centre: From Quay 10 at Lagmannsholmen, head towards Fiskebrygga and the central streets around Markens gate; the sightseeing train's town stop is Markensgate/Rådhusgata.

  • Walk: realistic for reaching Fiskebrygga and the centre; the cruise network describes walking access, and its town walking tour uses flat surfaces with some cobbles.

The port authority identifies Quay 10 as Kristiansand's preferred cruise berth. Cruise ships normally dock alongside. The older port manual also lists Quay 16 at Odderøya and permits anchorage and tenders; this is contingency provision rather than evidence that tendering is a normal arrival.

Published port information puts the centre approximately 500 metres from the main cruise quay. This is an orientation distance to the central area, not to every sight. The route and distance differ if your vessel uses another berth.

Follow the designated pedestrian exit and retain the quay name for your return. City Train Kristiansand runs between the cruise harbour and Markensgate/Rådhusgata via the Fish Market, waterfront and Posebyen. Its free shuttle offer is for crew showing crew ID.

About this port

Kristiansand offers a compact city-centre day with a waterfront, historic streets and a major art museum within the wider harbour area. You can build a satisfying visit around walking and one indoor attraction, without spending much of the call travelling into the countryside.

Begin by choosing your emphasis: Posebyen and the centre for town history, Kunstsilo for art, or Odderøya for a longer walk. Nearby attractions that require a bus or coach are better treated as the day's main outing.

Getting Around

The central street grid makes walking a practical way to link the shopping streets, square and waterfront. Fiskebrygga, the city centre and Odderøya form different parts of a wider walking circuit; allow time for the connections instead of treating every attraction as adjacent to the gangway.

For the zoo, AKT bus M1 leaves Henrik Wergelands gate, platform C, for Dyreparken (Fv 420). The published timetable gives about 24 minutes in the bus from this city-centre stop. The adult ticket within Kristiansand municipality costs kr39 one way in AKT Billett or kr66 one way bought on board (route and prices checked 2026-09-08). The return bus reaches Tollbodgata; include the walk back to the quay.

Taxis and organised excursions provide alternatives when you want to reduce walking or travel farther. If you choose an excursion to a zoo, heritage railway or another coastal town, check its current operating arrangements directly.

Things to Do

Explore Posebyen and the centre. Posebyen is the city's oldest district, with historic wooden houses and small businesses. Combine a look around its streets with the central square and cathedral area. Keep private entrances clear and check church visiting arrangements if you want to go inside.

Walk the waterfront. Fiskebrygga is a natural place for a food stop and a view of the harbour. Farther along the seafront, the promenade leads towards Bystranda. Choose the length of your walk according to the time left and remember that you must return to your actual berth.

Visit Kunstsilo. The former grain silo on Odderøya is now an art museum. Its exhibitions make a substantial indoor visit, so check the museum's current visitor information and give it time. Accessibility information and directions are available from the museum.

Explore Odderøya's paths. This former naval area now has marked walking routes, coastal views and military remains. The tourism board describes a walk of approximately three kilometres. Assess the route separately from a level city stroll, particularly if you need a shorter or step-free outing.

A museum and one neighbourhood walk can fill the call comfortably. Avoid turning an otherwise relaxed city day into a rush by adding a distant excursion at the end.

Getting back to your ship

Practical Information
