Small cruise ships can berth at Son Blanc. A 2025 report in Menorca's local newspaper documents National Geographic Orion alongside there. This establishes an actual cruise-docking option.

Son Blanc is the commercial terminal, separate from the narrow historic harbour below the old town. Do not plan on stepping from a tender into that old harbour. The same report says offshore cruise anchoring remained restricted; historic tender accounts are not a reliable arrival plan.

The terminal is 2 km from the centre. TIB bus 64 links Port Son Blanc with Plaça dels Pins in about 10 minutes; its published timetable is seasonal, so use the current line page for the operating dates. If steps or longer walks are difficult, use road transport for this first section.

About this port

Ciutadella's appeal is the relationship between its narrow harbour and the streets above it. Menorca's former capital has a compact historic centre where a square, a cathedral and a harbour viewpoint can form a satisfying short visit.

Keep the first part of the day local. Líthica's quarries or a prehistoric monument can provide a different perspective on the island, but either deserves a planned transfer and enough time of its own.

Getting Around

Explore the historic centre on foot once you reach it. Use Plaça des Born as an orientation point, then follow a short loop through the surrounding streets. For a reduced-walking visit, arrange a taxi through the arrival staff or tourist office rather than assuming one will be waiting at the arrival point.

For the initial transfer from Son Blanc, follow the ship's arrangements or agree a taxi pickup at the passenger exit. The old harbour's listed amenities should not be assumed to be beside your berth. For journeys across Menorca, consult TMSA's current information, checking both stops and the return timetable.

A trip across the island is a different commitment from visiting Ciutadella. Check the return connection before buying an outward ticket and allow for reboarding as well as the road journey.

Things to Do

Make a circuit of the old centre. Start around Plaça des Born, look at the town hall exterior and explore the lanes towards the cathedral. The viewpoint behind the town hall provides a useful view down over the harbour. Leave time to sit in a square rather than trying to visit every historic building.

Visit the cathedral. Santa Maria is the principal church in the centre. Its Gothic interior provides a focused cultural stop; use the diocese's cathedral information to plan access. Religious services and visitor admission may follow different arrangements.

Choose Líthica for a longer outing. The Pedreres de s'Hostal contain former quarry spaces, gardens and labyrinths. Read the operator's visit information before travelling: opening arrangements and online-entry requirements vary. The site has changes of level and exposed areas, so wear suitable footwear and carry water.

Consider Menorca's prehistoric heritage. UNESCO's Talayotic Menorca inscription covers a series of archaeological landscapes and monuments. It does not designate the whole modern city of Ciutadella as a World Heritage site. If archaeology is your priority, choose a specific site and verify its access rather than adding an unspecified island tour.

Getting back to your ship

A trip across the island is a different commitment from visiting Ciutadella. Check the return connection before buying an outward ticket and allow for reboarding as well as the road journey.

Practical Information

The currency is the euro (€). Spanish and Catalan are used locally. Dial 112 in an emergency.

Allow for slopes, steps and uneven paving between the harbour and town. Bring sun protection for outdoor sites. Keep the ship’s return deadline visible, and check current entry information before paying for transport to an attraction.
