West Sweden's tourism board confirms the Koön–Marstrandsön ferry, operated by Kungälv Municipality. Use its linked operator information for tickets and departures. It is a separate local service, not the ship's tender.

If you arrive on Marstrandsön, a fortress visit does not automatically require that ferry. If you arrive on Koön, include the crossing and waiting time in both directions. Arrange any mainland transport from the correct side of the channel.

Things to Do

• A limited shoreline walk: West Sweden publishes a route around Marstrand, including a narrower passage between rock faces and an alternative inland section. Choose a stretch that you can retrace comfortably rather than committing to the entire circuit before knowing the ship connection.
• Carlsten Fortress: the fortress stands above the town on Marstrandsön. Check its own opening page for your date and language requirements. Its regular guided tours are advertised in Swedish; an English tour should be arranged explicitly.
• Harbour and town: a shorter option below the fortress, leaving flexibility for the return. The climb to the fortress and the coastal paths should not be treated as equivalent to staying near the quay.
