Alanya cruise port guide

Alanya offers a useful choice between a harbour day and a visit to the fortified peninsula above it. For a short call, make the waterfront monuments the main outing.

Arrival & Getting Ashore

Getting to the centre: From Alanya Cruise Port on Rıhtım Caddesi, walk to the commercial centre’s post office and bazaar; this is the lower town, not the upper castle.

  • Walk: less than 10 minutes to the commercial centre and bazaar, according to GoTürkiye; realistic for a lower-town outing on foot. The upper castle is a separate steep climb.

Alanya Cruise Port has alongside cruise berths on Rıhtım Caddesi. The operator publishes a 533-metre berthing line, and the national tourism board places the commercial centre within walking distance. Clear the terminal and use the pedestrian exit indicated by port staff before starting your walk.

The central location is useful if you want to return early or split your day into two short outings. Keep the ship’s return instructions with you and arrange gangway assistance onboard if needed.

About this port

Alanya offers a useful choice between a harbour day and a visit to the fortified peninsula above it. For a short call, make the waterfront monuments the main outing. Add the upper castle only after deciding how to get up and back; being able to walk into town does not make the whole castle circuit an easy walk.

Getting Around

The harbour and central streets can be explored on foot. For the upper castle, consider arranging a vehicle in both directions if climbing is a concern. Specify the castle entrance you want to reach and agree a collection point; a ride uphill does not establish step-free access inside a historic site.

Alanya Teleferik runs from Damlataş beach to the castle walls near Ehmedek. A return ticket costs ₺620 for foreign full-fare passengers, and the cable car operates 09:30–21:00 (fare and hours checked 2026-10-15). Buy tickets at either station. You'll still have walking to do within the castle after the ride.

My suggested short-call plan is to visit the Red Tower and dockyard, then leave the remaining time for the harbour. Choose the upper castle as a separate priority if the available time and your mobility suit it. Avoid committing to several distant archaeological sites from this central berth.

Things to Do

  • Waterfront history: the Red Tower was built in 1226 to defend the harbour, followed by the Seljuk dockyard in 1228. They let you explore Alanya's maritime history without first travelling inland.
  • Upper castle: the Ministry of Culture describes remains from Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman periods on the steep peninsula. Admission to the ticketed castle attraction is €12 per foreign adult (checked 2026-10-15). Concentrate on one part of the complex instead of treating the full fortification as a short circuit.
  • A flexible town visit: keep central shops and the harbour as the final part of your outing. This leaves room to shorten the day if the climb or heat takes more effort than expected.

Getting back to your ship

The central location is useful if you want to return early or split your day into two short outings. Keep the ship’s return instructions with you and arrange gangway assistance onboard if needed.

Practical Information

The currency is the Turkish lira. Carry some lira for small purchases and ask which payment methods a business accepts. Dial 112 for an emergency.

Bring water, sun protection and footwear with grip for the castle. Use the Ministry’s castle visitor page when planning entry.
