Cruise ships normally dock alongside at Dikili's working port. The port's address is on Atatürk Caddesi at the town waterfront. Follow staff instructions for the passenger route through the terminal and note the meeting point before leaving on an independent excursion.

About this port

Dikili gives access to Pergamon at modern Bergama, but “visit Pergamon” can mean several separate sites. Before choosing an excursion, decide whether you want the hilltop acropolis or the Asklepion healing sanctuary. A short call is better spent on one clear focus than on a list of rushed stops.

Getting Around

Once clear of the port, the town centre is within walking distance according to the national tourism board.

GoTürkiye estimates about half an hour from Dikili Port to Pergamon. Treat this as an approximate outward journey; allow extra time for waiting, visiting and the return trip.

For Bergama, arrange a road transfer with the intended archaeological entrance written into the itinerary. Do not book only a drop-off labelled “Pergamon” without specifying the site and return pickup.

The acropolis and Asklepion are distinct parts of the wider cultural landscape. Ask a tour provider to separate travelling, site walking and waiting time in its plan.

Things to Do

  • Asklepion: the surviving complex includes a sacred approach, colonnaded courtyard, theatre and structures associated with ancient healing. It is a focused alternative if the history of medicine interests you; the remains do not validate ancient treatment claims.
  • Pergamon acropolis: UNESCO's account describes the Hellenistic capital's hilltop setting, with its theatre, temples and royal buildings. Choose this for the city layout and landscape, with access and walking requirements checked before booking.
  • Dikili town: a local waterfront visit leaves the most freedom to return early. Keep the excursion modest if a road outing would leave little allowance before all-aboard.

Getting back to your ship

For Bergama, arrange a road transfer with the intended archaeological entrance written into the itinerary. Do not book only a drop-off labelled “Pergamon” without specifying the site and return pickup.

Practical Information

Use Turkish lira for local purchases. The emergency number is 112.

Carry water and sun protection for outdoor archaeology. Ask about steps, gradients and vehicle boarding in relation to the actual excursion, rather than assuming either of the ancient sites offers a fully accessible circuit. Keep your ship's terminal and return details available to the driver.
