Follow the authorised passenger route from the quay to the public waterfront, where you can begin a town walk. Allow for the walk along the pier as well as the streets beyond it. Before setting off, note the return access point and reserve ship assistance in advance if needed.

About this port

Sinop's central harbour makes it a useful Black Sea port for an independent walk. The town occupies the narrow land connecting the Boztepe promontory to the mainland, with historic walls, museums and places to eat within the urban area. A short call works well as a town visit; the surrounding nature parks require separate transport. GoTürkiye

Begin with the waterfront and choose one museum before adding another stop. This leaves room for a meal and avoids turning a compact port day into a sequence of rushed visits.

Getting Around

Walking is the simplest basis for a town outing. Keep the harbour as an orientation point and combine a museum with the streets around the fortifications. You can shorten the circuit if the weather changes or your remaining time becomes limited.

For places outside town, arrange a taxi or an organised excursion with a confirmed return. Registered taxis should use the meter for ordinary journeys; discuss the full arrangements separately when booking a driver to wait at several stops. Taxi guidance

Hamsilos Nature Park is about 14 kilometres from the city centre, according to the national tourism board. That makes it a separate road outing, rather than an extension of the harbour walk. GoTürkiye

Things to Do

Castle and waterfront: the surviving fortifications show how closely the town's defences were connected to its harbour. Walk around the accessible public areas and use only entrances and wall sections opened to visitors. Sinop Fortress forms part of Türkiye's Tentative List submission for the Genoese Maritime Network; it is not an inscribed World Heritage site. UNESCO

Sinop Museum: the archaeological museum offers a way to explore the town's maritime past, including amphorae recovered from the Black Sea. Its garden also contains ancient remains. Consult the museum's own page when planning your visit. Turkish Museums background

Historical Prison Museum: the former prison within the castle walls provides a different perspective on Sinop's history. Allow time to engage with the subject rather than treating it as another scenic castle building. Consult the operator's visitor page for current access, tickets and weekly closures.

Pervane Madrasa: this medieval building now houses a handicraft market. It provides a smaller stop between the museums and a chance to browse locally made items. Turkish Museums

Local food: look for Sinop mantı dumplings or nokul, a rolled pastry with fillings that can be savoury or sweet. Ask about the filling when ordering, especially if avoiding meat or nuts. A meal near your return route is an easy way to finish the visit. GoTürkiye food guide

Practical Information

The official language is Turkish and the currency is the Turkish lira. Carry some cash and keep the port's name and your ship contact available offline. Call 112 for ambulance, police or fire. Country basics, emergency help

Wear shoes suitable for old stone surfaces and carry a light waterproof layer. Use each museum's own visitor page when planning your route: the archaeological museum and prison have different weekly closure days, also recorded in the ministry's museum list.
