Tobermory Harbour Authority's guidance describes cruise ships anchoring in the approaches to the bay or within harbour limits, with tenders carrying passengers to a dedicated landing platform. Its current pontoon page identifies the North Arm as serving cruise tenders. This is direct harbour evidence for a tender call.
Follow the ship's directions for the platform used and the final return boat. The harbour's separate visitor-boat berths are not evidence that your cruise ship will dock.
About this port
Tobermory offers a manageable town visit on Mull without a cross-island excursion. Start by securing the tender return plan, then choose between time around the harbour, a distillery visit or a longer walk. Aros Park is a possible walking destination, but forestry work currently affects its coastal approach.
Getting Around
Keep a short day in Tobermory if you want to retain flexibility around tenders. West Coast Motors routes 95/495 run from Ledaig Car Park to Craignure Ferry Terminal. A representative daytime journey takes about 43 minutes, and the current fare cap is £2 for a single trip.
Aros Park's coastal trail starts behind the Harbour Building and is about 2 kilometres each way to the park, before any walking inside it. The dated forestry notice and barriers govern whether the coastal link is open. A long bus outing and the park walk should be treated as alternatives on a short call.
Things to Do
- Harbour time: stay around the town waterfront for the simplest return to the tender area. Identify your boarding platform before exploring the surrounding streets.
- Tobermory Distillery: the visitor centre is beside Ledaig car park, with bookable tours and tastings. The operator's visitor page and general terms give different minimum ages for production-area access, so families need the distillery's ruling for their chosen experience. The previous blanket statement excluding all under-18s from production tours was incorrect.
- Aros Park, subject to access: Forestry and Land Scotland describes woodland and waterfall walks. Its notice checked on 7 September 2026 says felling began on 31 August 2026, with around four weeks of work expected. The park remains open, but the coastal link from Tobermory can close temporarily. Follow barriers and staff directions; do not count on completing that route to a fixed tender deadline.
Getting back to your ship
Follow the ship's directions for the platform used and the final return boat. The harbour's separate visitor-boat berths are not evidence that your cruise ship will dock.
Practical Information
The currency is pound sterling (£). Scottish banknotes are not legal tender, including in Scotland, but may be accepted as payment. A retailer can choose which notes or payment methods to accept. Dial 999 or 112 for emergencies.
The distillery lists itself as cashless, so bring an accepted card if visiting. Carry waterproof clothing and shoes with grip for outdoor walking. Keep the ship's final tender time separate from any bus or tour departure time.
